SP-X – ‘Moving Through Mirrors’ Parts 1, 2 & 3

Techno legend Peter Van Hoesen’s Time to Express imprint is in the midst of presenting its second triple-vinyl release, following the acclaimed ‘Receiver’ series. With part one having whetted our appetite back in April, part two has just dropped with a thud, and we wait in anticipation for part 3 which will no doubt be pummelling dance floors at the beginning of June.

SP-X is at the helm of all six tracks, showcasing his stripped yet energetic approach to techno. The series entitled ‘Moving Through Mirrors’ is littered with chunky industrial kicks, hypnotic arpeggiators and catchy keys. While each release is unique, they drive in similar fashion and prove cohesive to the elusive producer’s style.

The initial first segment, with tracks ‘E.T.A.’ and ‘Return To Function’, leans towards captivation of the dancefloor with progressive elements that effortlessly diversify and burst with continuous energy in every phrase. The recent second slice experiments with reverberated dub elements that make the tracks feel spacious. Chilling hats pierce frantically on ‘Out of the Trap’, and with impact on ‘Spectrum Drift’, as stingers vary rhythmically, working to enchant those velvety pads.

It’s the forthcoming finale that is the pick of the bunch, though. It captures a medium of parts one and two, combining driving forces and sedative moods. This is especially felt on ‘Fleeting Image’, which, in itself is an enraptured listening (and dancing) experience.
