Lost within the year, and a seemingly quiet biographical online portrait, in a world where everything is on the internet… The Noise Gate wanted to shine a little bit more light on someone who is a fantastic producer and upcoming talent – Torsten Lindsø Andersen AKA Round gets a deserved nod.
Round has released a brilliant little number, out on megaman John Talabot’s label Hivern Discs, which certainly has a knack for picking up exciting new artists, the 3 track release entitled Glass/Float was welcomed into the world a few days before Christmas and has already flown off the shelves but the only other snippet we’ve had of Round so far is a sneaky remix of The XX.
The three track release starts with ‘Glass’, an uplifting and melodic piece of deep house, yet razor sharp and resonant in its own unique sound. We’re given just a touch of the lingering female vocal sample before it’s gone again, certainly hypnotic. The track premiered on John Talabot’s DJ-Kicks mix last year, and it managed to stand its own ground superbly with tracks by heavyweight producers such as Moodymann, Pional, MCDE, Axel Boman and even Genius of Time… quite the achievement no?
‘Float’ is instantly heavier and drifting, darker sounds ride through the rhythm, building up really well with this distorted brass instrument and vocal cuts that I really can’t quite put my finger on, but at the same time I don’t want to, it adds to the ambience of the whole track. ‘Lucky Star’ is this hyperventilating, upbeat dance floor beaut, quite the number to finish on, and by no means does it let the other two tracks down!
The artwork is done by Spanish gent Arnau Pi, the man behind some other label’s artworks you may have heard of including Young Turks. Seeing as Round has a touch of the old graphic designer in himself, it’s not surprising they’ve chosen artwork that stands out from most of the other sleeve work in the record shops.
With ‘Float’ and ‘Lucky Star’ being a wicked new showcase of Round’s productions, which adds to the success that ‘Glass’ had last year, we’re sure that Torsten is going to be in much higher demand in 2015!
You can check out all 3 cuts on Beatport here, but if you wanted the limited release in marbled vinyl… well that’s long flown off the shelves.
