Paolo Rocco – ‘Move Body, Move Forward’ remixes

Defected have announced a four-track remix package to Paolo Rocco’s ‘Move Body, Move Forward’. The original laidback, deep house cut had the Montreal-man’s distinctive sound with a similar feel to his 2013 track ‘People Say’ track and even the quality Nic Fanciulli redux.

After Paolo Rocco’s original mix, the first remix comes via a product of Toronto’s flourishing dance scene, Nathan Barato. Slap-bang in the middle of the Golden Triangle of house and techno – New York, Chicago and Detroit – the Canadian city has a rich rave and club heritage stretching back three decades. Arguably Barato’s best releases to date come in the form of 2012 cruisers ‘Back Up Queen’ (via Rekids) and ‘Hard Worq’ (dropped on both Cadenza and Defected). Baroto’s version of Move Body, Move Forward is a subby locomotive with a rolling, techy rhythm, swinging hats and melodic, intangible vocal sampling. The Toronto man offers the best re-incarnation of the original, which itself is probably still pound-for-pound the strongest cut on the EP

The final two tracks on the EP come from none other than veteran US producer Osunlade with his rework and a dub version. The ‘Soul’ mix layers the vocal over busy, organic sounds and a wandering beat. As you’d imagine, the dub is a lighter, more stripped-back mix.

Paolo Rocco himself has been productive so far in 2014, the pick of which his remix of Jesse Perez’s ‘That’s Real Muthafuckin’ Talk’. With two dates in the US this month, he crosses the Atlantic on the 5th April to play at Defected in the House at Ministry of Sound, alongside NiCe 7 and Sonny Fodera.
