Non Octo – ‘Lost’

Non Octo, a young producer duo, have emerged from Stockholm, bright eyed and bushy tailed, after winning a remix contest for Danny Darko. Since then, they have clearly put an immense amount of effort into their latest single, ‘Lost’. With an ear for aggressive melody, they prove themselves to be talented beyond their years and capable of producing a real hit.

With a wild, powerful intro, seeming to almost give the song a physical presence, the song demands attention right from the first note. It gains momentum as the beats intensify until it comes alive with activity. The violin input is excellent, giving the song a sense of urgency and a little something different to avoid the monotony of the thousands of other songs constantly being churned out. Quick guitar strums, acting as a permanent underlay, create a uniform beat and give the song a sense of stability, despite the chaotic nature of the turbulent melody. Finally, the piano riff settles the song while maintaining the dramatic air. The fact that there are no lyrics, something that can often drag a song down, somehow seems to add to the artistic anarchy – the inclusion of a voice might civilise the song.

‘Lost’ seems more synonymous with a performance than simply a song, despite obviously only being in audio format. Theatrical and vivid, it dances through the air and sparks compulsions to dance, dance, dance! It isn’t light-hearted or befitting of the summer, but if you’re looking for an intense, restless rave experience, you’ve already found it.

The track will be released on Beatport, Itunes and Spotify, including a Vocal Remix, in August. Until then, you can catch it on Soundcloud:
