Logistics – Somersaults/Triangles

Logistics returns with his first solo release since 2012 and showcases two tracks of his forthcoming ‘Polyphony’ LP with ‘Somersaults’ & ‘Triangles’.

It was way back in 2003 when Matt Gresham, aka Logistics, dropped his first release and the world became aware of his prodigious talents. Since then he has gone from being a fresh faced up and comer to a legend in the scene, with six solo albums under his belt, numerous remixes and of course the side project Nu:Logic with his brother, Nu:Tone.

The end of the month see’s the main man return to anchor the studio on his own with the release of his latest LP, Polyphony, and to get us all suitably hyped he has seen fit to release two tracks from the forthcoming album, his first release since 2012’s ‘Fear Not’.

Logistics has built his reputation on being able to bridge the gap between the more soulful and laid back side of the genre with the more club suited bass heavy sound which keeps the dance floor rocking up and down the country. So with his latest release he continues with the sound which has kept him relevant for so long with two tracks which are sure to have you reaching for the lasers while getting down low all at the same time.

‘Somersaults’ is what you would define as the classic Logistics sound and that is by no means a bad thing. It’s a euphoric and uplifting liquid anthem that oozes soul with inspirational piano chords and switches between male and female vocals to create something which instantly sounds familiar and fresh. It reminds me a lot of what was found on ‘Crash Bang Wallop’ which five years after its release remains one of my all time favourite albums.

‘Triangles’ works as the perfect counterbalance to ‘Somersaults’ chirpy and positive outlook, with a more laid back and brooding bass. It’s minimal and soft piano chords layered with subtle vocal samples create a haunting and beautiful track which manages to be both sombre and subtly positive all at the same time.

The two tracks on show here offer an intriguing look at Logistics upcoming album and as a fan of all the man’s previous work, I for one could not be more exciting with what’s to come.
