HOT TIP: Hungry Music

Deep in the belly of the beast, or the south of France, whichever you prefer, something is stirring. Hungry Music have just had their first birthday. Now if this was an actual baby, it may have had its first steps… but the label has already had a growth spurt or two, with six solid, very well received releases already under their belt.

While concentrating on a select few cherry-picked artists, namely three, it’s managed to supersede France via a meteoric rise, going global through great music, epic live sets and righteous word of mouth, of course it’s only right that The Noise Gate gives you the lowdown on Hungry’s crafted sound.

N’To the man living in a golden place called Marseille, has dished out the most for Hungry Music so far, and more than anything has had a phenomenal 2014! Opening up the Hungry Catalogue with Utopia, an absolute gem built for summer (I know it’s heading for winter now but still). Utopia delivers the standards that Hungry Music have managed to maintain throughout the rest of all their releases, nothing but excellence!

N’To’s music is pretty unique, yet typically upbeat and techy with a real deep sound, odd twists and plant of signature drops. It’s really interesting production like ‘Petite’ and his penned version of Joris Delacroix & Oliver Schories’ ‘Palm Tree Memories’, which are placing N’To on a pedestal way, way up beyond the clouds and the charts. He’s also just brought out Hungry Music’s latest release dropping new tracks ‘Monkey Man’ and ‘Minor Swag’, both of which serve to highlight why N’To is killing the internet more than Kim Kardashian’s ass ever did. You can actually grab some of his awesome music for free over on his SoundCloud page too (check out his remix of label head Worakls).

Worakls, the duo of Kevin Air and Norman Joss not only have a reputation for live performances but also clearly have a remarkable production ethos. Sharing Hungry Music’s opening first release with N’To, they showcased ‘Porto’, their representation of the great city laden with Portuguese guitars and melodies, only with an upbeat tempo and bass.

The guys haven’t left it at that though, keeping the ball rolling after the first release with ‘Flocon de Neige’ and for this they brought the trumpets out, quite literally. A masterpiece that’s broken down with piano keys trickling like the songs translation (snowflakes), this track is one that seems to best resemble the sound Hungry Music are trying to craft through every release: at once harmonious and uplifting. If that wasn’t enough their piece de resistance was brought out a few months ago, with ‘Salzburg’ and ‘Far Far Away’ a both out of this world.

Joachim Pastor the Parisian, last but not least, is the final piece of the puzzle for Hungry Music and a fine addition. I still remember the first time I ever heard ‘Braumstig’ – I knew this guy was a bit special! A man of great production talents, just like his label mates, he’s only brought out one release on HM as ye. Exercising quality not quantity, ‘Kenia’ and ‘Couleur’ are both absolutely magical and once more show why Hungry Music are a label that’s far and few between. ‘Kenia’ would be a great introduction to Mr. Pastor as I can’t stress how much you get that hands in the air feeling from it! He’s also got a few freebies on his SoundCloud too. The label’s next EP is from Joachim himself and he’s given us some clues with snippets of it in this mix, it should be an absolute stormer!

With Hungry Music’s first six releases breaking down barriers and reaching the world with its verdant sounds, this label is one to watch, just remember you heard it here first! Peace.
