Fatboy Slim’s Southern Fried Records is getting ready to take over Boiler Room next week, so in preparation they’ve commissioned a very special vinyl-only mix by The Emperor Machine, AKA Andy Meecham of Chicken Lips fame, who will be headlining on the night.
Amusingly described by Meecham as the spawn of a dirty relationship between an EMS VCS3 and a Roland System 100, born the last day of the century, The Emperor Machine has been notable by its absence from the scene for several years – Meecham’s last work under the moniker came in 2009 with his album, ‘Space Beyond The Egg’, featuring the singles ‘Kananana’ (How many attempts did it take you to pronounce that?) and ‘You Clapper’, which, strangely enough, was the B-side on his single ‘Black Ken’, released earlier that year.
But TEM has now made a bit of a comeback with a new EP called ‘Hey!’ (hence the title of this mix) which came out on Southern Fried Records this week, complete with a trio of remixes by none other than Ewan Pearson, as well as the humorously titled ‘Mandy Mutron’. The EP is penned as something of a slight return for Meecham, indicating that a new album may well be on it’s way in the coming months. If that’s the case, 2013 should be a very special year for Southern Fried Records, which turns 20 in June.
We reckon Norm will throw the kind of party that’s guaranteed to get out of hand…
