Spec is no new comer to Uprise Audio, in fact he was one of the first artists to be signed by Seven a few years ago. His first release was was the critically acclaimed number one hit ‘Titan EP’ which firmed his roots within the dubstep ranks and lingered in the top end of the sales charts for weeks . So needless to say, his second release has been very much anticipated.
Metaphysics
Metaphysics has a signature Spec intro with its haunting bells, drone like pads and suspenseful lead. The animated bass line brings power and intensity to the track, creating forceful impact when it drops. It’s very evident within Specs style that he has been influenced by his idols Kryptic Minds and Metaphysics is a testament to that, whilst bringing something fresh to the sound.
Crossbreed
Spec keeps the focus on the dance floor with Crossbreed. It’s weighty drums and big 808s are backed up by an infectious whiney gangster lead, melodic elements and rhythmic percussion. The sound design on the bass work reenforces the soundscape with euphoric energy, commanding full body movement with anthemic appeal.
Shadows
Shadows begins with eerie cinematic style. It’s spacious and melody driven, with a dark drone creating atmosphere and presence. The drum work is sharp and tight, full of dynamics and neatly holds the foundation of the groove; all of which compliments the lashing bass line that cuts like a broad sword, swinging and twisting through low end grit.
Lazy Days
Drenched in West Coast flavour, Lazy Days is a bit of a wild card and hits from a completely different angle, but hint on future flavour. The 808s pound over the top of electro beats, laden with fast paced hats. Its lazy lead and chord stabs bring depth and harmony to the mix, gluing everything together. Again, like the three tracks before this, Lazy Days is aimed at the dance floor and DJ’s sets and brings a whole new dimension to the EP.
