Tel Aviv base duo Black Girl/ White Girl are ones to watch. With their take on garage and breaks influenced house music, throttled by thick punchy bass stabs and playfully bouncing percussion, the girls are well on their way to join the ranks of future house stars.
Fresh and exciting, Black Girl / White Girl productions are equally well suited to the bedrooms of house, bass and garage aficionados as they are to intimate underground dancefloor scenarios. With early support from Rinse, Worthy, Mark Starr, smalltalk, Luxgroove, Kiss FM and more, they look set to take the experimental house scene by storm
With a forthcoming single ‘The Feels’ set to drop on Worthy’s Anabatic Records next week as part of the Nu-Bay$$ Vol 3 compilation, we thought it worth while getting together with the ladies for a proper natter. The girls have also kindly provided us with a mix by way of introduction – and with tracks from Woz, DJ Q and Flava D amongst others you need to give it a listen!

Hiya! To introduce yourself can you start by telling us your names, where you’re from, and how you’d describe your sound?
Hi guys! We’re Karin from Israel & Ty Ty from Curacao, currently we’re both living in Tel Aviv. We like to think of our sound as casually upbeat, with plenty of mysterious dark undertones to keep things interesting. It’s living somewhere between garage, house, bass and tech.
Who would you say influences you musically?
That varies by week, day, month.. you name it. At the moment we’re loving Huxley, Secondcity, Detroit Swindle, and Groove Armada. Usually we listen to loads of new and old stuff and get super inspired by little riffs and crazy leftfield sounds that pop up.
What has your journey been like up to this point? How did you get into making music?
Well, we started the project in 2013, and since that moment we have been working continuously on finding and getting to grips with our own sound. Some things that characterise us: we’re always open to learn new things, and we rarely start anything without making a plan first. Making music is something that was always an ideal life for both of us, so we work hard all the time so we can live that life full time.
What’s your production set up like? Any cool bits of tech?
The essentials.. We work on a Mac, with a dusty ol’ Behringer UMX25 keyboard and a Korg Kaosspad 3. Our DAW of choice is Live. We tried Logic at some point, but Ableton is just so much more practical. Also, we’re always looking for new gear to add to our collection, so we’ll probably end the year with a few extra bits.
Your new release ‘The Feels’ is coming out soon on Anabatic Records, can you tell us a bit more about it?
We were initially going to release it as a free download, as we didn’t really know if it’d fit somewhere. When we noticed that Anabatic was looking for fresh artists’ demos, it totally hit us that we could fit there. So we sent it off.. And within some days we got a message from Worthy that he’d like to release it. This was great, because we’ve always been a fan of his versatile style, it’s something that we also strive to have.
About The Feels, the track itself is about being overly emotional and super clingy when you’re in love. Them feels, you know? It’s got a tough bassline and lots of very nice effects in there as well, as we always like to put tons of vibe into our productions.
Can we expect a tour?
Amen, hallelujah.. It will come at the right moment. 😉
Have you got any other projects in the pipeline that you’re working on at the moment? What can we expect from you guys in the future?
Definitely! We’re currently working on about a dozen originals and remixes. The most exciting to us is a new EP that is very close to getting signed by one of our favourite labels. We can’t say much, except for the fact that previous releases of theirs have been supported by none other than Hannah Wants. Totally awesome.
If you could collaborate with anyone, who would you choose?
This question makes us want to cry, because there’s not one answer that could live up to our dreams. (After thinking for about 52 hours) Mmm okay, we’ll go with Jessie Ware. Because we’ve recently realised she’s so freaking awesome..
Who are you feeling in dance music at the moment, what are you listening to?
Love Friend Within’s new label’s stuff, practically every release from the Love & Other camp, Dusky, The Magician, Huxley of course.. And definitely everybody on the Anabatic NU-BAY$$ 3 compilation, watch out for that one! The release is on October 28 exclusively via Beatport.
Any hot tips for us in terms of people to watch out for?
Smalltalk & Mark Mackenzie! They are sick, go check them out 🙂
Thanks for taking the time to chat with us! Any final shout outs or words of wisdom before you go?
Hope to rave with you guys soon in the UK. Thanks for having us and enjoy the mix! <3
