Following on from my introductory General J mix, I’ve been shedding some light on my EDM picks for you and unearthing some diamonds in the rough – all currently on the brink of a big break in the EDM world. First came Teminite, swiftly followed by Norwegian producer Rootkid. With the great response we’ve been having from all you EDM lovers, I’ve decided to follow up next with English producer Den5ity!
Around the beginning of August, English producer Den5ity AKA Justin Novak gave us ‘5th Realm’: a brilliant piece of melodic EDM. Fitted with dubstep’s characteristic mids and wobbling bass, you can distinguish some similarities in style to the productions of Nero and Xilent as the foundations in this rhythmic production balance the likes of neurofunk and ethereal schematics to create a delicate but compelling tune.
Den5ity refers to himself on SoundCloud as an artist that is “blurring the lines between genres”, a statement supported by the extensive collection of dubstep-variant productions available through his page on the site. On top of this the artist has also been exploring the creation of other styles under the alias Heaven State, releasing an EP of the same name earlier in the year through Simplify Recordings.
We can only speculate as to whether Novak will continue to construct more distinctive and vivid dubstep through his productions, or if the year may see him delve into different genres as he builds up his distinctive EDM sound. Either way, his existing popularity and finesse looks set to resonate through the current vein of bright and upcoming producers looking to make some serious noise on the EDM scene over the coming months.
