Woz – ‘Cherry Hill’ / ‘Trust Meh’ EP

Bristolian producer Ashely ‘Woz’ Westlake first got the attention of Black Butter Records with his RackNRuin ‘Territory’ remix competition entry. Blowing the label away with his remix, not only did he win the competition but Black Butter signed his debut EP ‘Seen’ on the spot!

Exploring bass music with his own individual groove, Woz has quickly established his own unique take on the genre. As his reputation within dance music builds, with support from the likes of Skream, Toddla T, Oneman, Redlight, Monki, Roska ,Gorgon City and Loefah (to name just a few!),and sets this summer at Fabric, Glastonbury and Outlook, Woz looks to be a name well worth remembering if you consider yourself any sort of bass-head.

His new EP ‘Cherry Hill’/‘Trust Meh’ is now up for preview on SoundCloud, with the official release date set for 24th August. The A-side, featuring Max Marshall on mic duties, is built on a proper Bristolian bass line: hefty, surging, dark and gritty. Despite starting off very Detroit house sexy, with the weighty bass line dominating the track and up-beat percussion driving momentum forward, as ‘Cherry Hill’ winds on it becomes increasingly futuristic in tone: with Woz weaving together the beats, bass and Max Marshall’s vocals to construct something distinctly modern and fresh.

B- Side ‘Trust Meh’ is also dominated by a robust shuddering bassline. With flirty kicks and hi-hats forming a half-step beat, amidst broken-up sections of whirring mids and reverbed vocals, this second track is more distinctively ‘dub’ than its predecessor. With more defined builds and drops, worked up using drum patterns and rising bass, Woz delivers an expertly crafted UK bass tune with ‘Trust Meh.’
