Berlin’s iconic Tresor Records has announced the long-awaited reissue of ‘Fusion Flats’, the landmark EP by Detroit electronic duo, Drexciya, first released following their seminal 1999 album, ‘Neptune’s Lair’.
Scheduled for release on November 7th, more than a quarter of a century since it was first produced, ‘Fusion Flats’ will be available both digitally and on vinyl (TRESOR130X), distributed by Word and Sound. The remastered EP will include the original extended version, alongside remixes by Detroit heavyweights Octave One, Kaotic Spacial Rhythms and 043 Chaos. The release also features striking new artwork from Detroit-based contemporary artist, Matthew Angelo Harrison, whose futuristic imagery has become closely tied to the Drexciya reissue series.
As Drexciya, James Stinson and Gerald Donald carved out one of the most distinctive mythologies in electronic music. Emerging in the early 1990s, their work fused aquatic science fiction narratives with raw, futuristic machine funk. ‘Neptune’s Lair’, also on Tresor, marked a turning point, expanding their influence across Europe and cementing their legacy as pioneers of futuristic electro. Though Stinson’s sudden and tragic passing in 2002 at the age of just 32 brought an untimely end to the project, Drexciya’s sound and mythology has made an enduring impression on contemporary electronic music.
The reissue of ‘Fusion Flats’ is part of a wider project by Tresor to make its entire Drexciya catalog available once again, with all albums and EPs released by the duo on the Berlin label returning to circulation. ‘Neptune’s Lair’ will even appear on special limited-edition cassette, in a nod to the nostalgia of 90s physical music formats.
