‘Somebody New’ (Jakwob VIP)

‘Somebody New’ (Jakwob VIP)

Dubstep and vocals is a hard combination to get right. Nine times out of ten, the vocals ruin the music. Or they have no meaning. Or they just don’t fit. Jakwob has disproven this common belief with his new track, ‘Somebody New’ featuring Tiffani Juko.

You may recognise newcomer Tiffani from that inevitable moment when Torqux made the unavoidable transition from dubstep to house with ‘So Divine’, as seems to be the current trend. Juko’s unique soulful flow has a Katy B feel to it, but without the child-like connotations of Katy’s lyrics – it doesn’t matter what Juko says, she discloses it with such tranquil elegance that it’s hard to even care what the lyrics are.

It’s all very well and good appreciating the pleasantries of Jakwob’s forthcoming release – but what we’re really looking forward to is the Dismantle remix. Never one to disappoint on the dancefloor (whatever your taste), Dismantle will smash it every time. The Jakwob VIP is good, but somehow we can’t just shake the feeling that Dismantle will do one better.

To afford the VIP justice, it must be heard on a decent sound system. I’m afraid that your Dr Dres or your Logitechs just won’t do it this time. To ensure you treat this track with the fairness it deserves, catch Jakwob at Love Saves The Day 2014. There’s a deep jungle-esque bass to this rhythm – one that could easily pass you by without a second listen.

‘Somebody New’ is due for release on March 30th via Digital Soundboy.
