Sideshow & Bob was created by producers Enzio Abbruzzini & Gustavo Chateaubriand, obviously Simpsons fans. With a little help from Erase, they’re due to release the mellowly energetic EP ‘Everybody’, which contains the singles ‘Everybody’ and ‘This Is My Flow’, on June 9th. Together they shape a versatile and modern sound, creating a slowed atmosphere for their audience despite the relatively quick pace. They don’t try very hard to avoid repetitiveness but in the electronic genre that is pretty much a given, and Sideshow & Bob make up for it through their urban, warped stamp.
The first single, ‘Everybody’, possesses a strong and diverse beat, serving as the support of the song. Mutterings in what I suppose is Spanish add a little spice, which is then accentuated by rippling and affected sound effects. The vocals are provided in a deadpan tone, prolonged syllables creating a laid-back sound. The whole song exudes metropolitan coolness and is given an appearance of minimalism through the clapped backbeats and subtle electronic riffs.
In the second song, ‘This Is My Flow’, electronic elements weave between deeper sounds, creating a futuristic tenor with darker undertones. The beat is consistent and nicely paced, though the song is too easygoing for any kind of intense scene. The main lyrics are the words ‘you’re sexy’, repeated frequently enough to give you a self-esteem boost. In fact, I think the words were selected purposefully just to flatter the trendy club-goers who put a lot of effort into getting ready, and to console the facially-challenged rejectees. At least they know how to target their audience. Either way, I feel that this tongue-in-cheek inclusion shows the boys to at least have a sense of humour, which is so vital when being likeable plays such a huge part in gaining success.
Overall, the sounds of Sideshow & Bob ooze laid-back, effortless musical control. Their songs could use a little fattening out, but there are enough blaring, riotous rave tracks in the world for now. The songs aren’t officially released until June 9th, but until then you can catch them below:
