Scuba (aka Paul Rose) announces the release date for the final panel of his ‘Phenix’ triptych.
Set to drop on HotFlush Recordings on September 22nd, ‘Phenix 3’ concludes a string of EP releases; the first of which launched back in April.
Whilst ‘Phenix 1’ embellished upon his ambient and melodic side, ‘Phenix 2’ saw him flex his tough-techno muscles more openly with squealing synths and echoing toms sitting alongside conjured-up, bare and barren soundscapes.
Now, poised to drop the third and final instalment in what was dubiously considered by some to be a sneaky under-the-radar album release from the DJ and producer, we are presented with the closing four tracks that combine to form ‘Phenix 3’.
‘Phenix 3’ is packed to the rafters with big and bold tech beats. Opening track ‘Silence’ thunders in assertively to tell a tale of a blue funk ahead: built on an echoing call-and-response structure. ‘Nineteen Eighty-Eight’ rides a more mellow and melodic vibe, transposing old Chicago into the contemporary.
On the flip, the fast and exacting techno pulse of ‘Plateau’ underscores a glimmering and star-lit composition of synth-work. Closing with ‘Fade’, which appropriately reigns in the tempo for the EP’s final resolution, revels in an acoustic disposition with celestial chimes and fuzzy, natural-sounding drum work.
Overall, it’s very hard to find something not to like. ‘Phenix 3’ is a highly finessed and immersive slice of techno goodness, we simply can’t stop listening to it! Available through Beatport and on 12″ wax September 22nd, make sure to check out the preview below.
