Playlist Takeover: 22 Digit Records

Newcastle-based 22 Digit Records was set up in 2008 to release uncompromising underground house and techno.

The label has since become home to original music and remixes from established names like Matt Tolfrey and Ekkohause, while helping launch the careers of artists such as Michael Mclardy and William Welt.

22 Digit was never designed to follow trends but it neither does it go out of its way to avoid them – the only thing the label does avoid is sticking to one narrow sub-genre of music. It has a small and beloved family of talented producers and DJs, with an inner circle of core artists including Alan Svartr, Melos & Kyber, Midicult, YokoO, Ludowick, Jerico, Pete Weasel, Ricardo Jefferson and Tom Ellis, among others.

The following playlist is a mere snapshot of the label’s output, comprising some of 22 Digit’s most recent material, it demonstrates a love for 4/4 beats in various shapes and sizes. Regardless of style, however, each of these tracks possesses serous head-nodding qualities.
