Plane Shifter – ‘Badlands’

New Vancouver-based techno label, Eternal Drive Recordings is back with another 4-track EP, due for release on July 14th. ‘Badlands’, an original track by Plane Shifter, comes complete with remixes from from Andrei Morant, JGarrett and Jay Zoney.

The EP has already seen support from a broad raange of key techno players including Speedy J, Chris Liebing, Slam, JAK, XHEI, Forest People, Raíz, Brendon Moeller, Sam Paganini and many more.

The previous release, which featured music from CLR and Electric Deluxe regular, Black Asteroid, received overwhelmingly positive feedback and support across the board from techno luminaries such as Joseph Capriati, Speedy J and Gary Beck. This second release, featuring remixes from Andrei Morant, JGarrett and Jay Zoney is an equally impressive round two, packing a formidable punch.

The title track, ‘Badlands’, is a solid techno thumper, with a thundering kick and metallic percussion, somewhat reminiscent of a train roaring through the warning bells at a level crossing. A relentless tension is maintained throughout the track, making it perfect for peak-time destruction.

For the second track, Andrei Morant puts his spin on ‘Badlands’ to deliver a slightly more stripped-back interpretation. With the addition of a solid stab and shuffling, heavy percussion, his remix has turned out to be something of a dancefloor weapon. With previous releases on an impressive list of labels, including Gynoid Audio sister label, Translucent, along with Android Muziq and Naked Lunch, Andrei is already a firm favourite with many of the techno scene’s big guns.

JGarrett, AKA Josh Garret, has been releasing music since 1995, and demonstrates his extensive knowledge of techno with his remix of ‘Badlands’. He employs simple rhythms along with a classic ride cymbal and a looped stab to create a timeless cut that’s full old school appeal.

Label boss Jay Zoney adds the finishing touches to the release with his bleepy, heads-down remix of ‘Badlands’. Retaining key elements from the original, his remix has all energy of the original, but with a slightly cleaner mix that brings a pleasing contrast to the release as a whole.

Eternal Drive Recordings is one of the most exciting new labels to come out of Canada, and with an A&R policy that selects only the finest underground techno, each new release is sure to be a must-have for anyone playing full-throttle 4/4 material. ‘Badlands’ is certainly no different.
