P.O.O.F. – ‘Prisoners of Our Fears’ EP

The title of this EP says much about the content. ‘Prisoners of Our Fear’ is the debut release from P.O.O.F. and is a deep and cerebral four-tracker.

AMAM imprint founder Mereu has teamed up with classically-trained trumpeter Mario Massa and experimental guitarist Maurizio Marzo. The label is building a distinctive in-house style and this EP is evidence of their desire to place greater emphasis on experimentation, in particular with live instruments. The idea is the collaboration will explore the possibilities new “sonic elements” and classical sounds over 4×4 house rhythms.

‘Factotum’ is our introduction to Massa’s trumpet weaving through the hazy atmosphere and Marzo’s playful guitar work over the gentle groove.

‘Die Umarmung Der Geister’ is a techier offering blended once more with the lazy guitar rhythm and relaxed trumpet notes complimenting the prominent clap and percussion tracks.

‘Upset’ takes a different approach with its percussive patterns and delicately programmed beats unfolding after an extensive intro. The driving groove combines with suggestive, distorted guitar picks to build a tension that is released slowly like the onset of hypnosis.

Laura Mura joins the Italian triplet for ‘We Will Find Out’, a harmonious ensemble of sonic influences effortlessly combine the “artificial with the organic.”

Prisoners of Our Fears drops on digital only on the 3^rd of March and serves up a thoughtful piece experimental, hypnotic house.
