Notion – ‘Last Night’

Notion – ‘Last Night’

Introducing Notion, aka Rob Penny, a highly proficient beat-maker hailing from the leafy county of Herefordshire. Currently based in the somewhat more happening city of Bristol, Rob has been making noise on the scene for some time with his mix of grime and UK funky/bassline bangers.

First picked up in 2010 by Champion’s Formula Records imprint, having handed him a CD of his beats at one of his shows, Notion’s music has gone on to receive airplay on RinseFM as well as support from big names such as Spooky, Brackles, DJ Q, Royal T and many more.

Set to release the massive ‘Octopus’ on Project All Out Records some time in the near future, the producer is quickly rising through the ranks of UK Bass with his on point grime-laced beats. Recently offering a free download of ‘Bumper’ as a thank you to his fans when his Facebook page hit 500 likes, it appears that Notion is fast asserting himself as a pro when it comes to producing bass-heavy anthems.

‘Last Night’, the latest creation to appear on his SoundCloud, is a weighty bassline track featuring a sped-up, pitch-shifted sample of Wiz Khalifa’s opening bars from ‘No Sleep’. Opening amidst building percussion and stabbing melodics, with the hook ‘Last night I let the party get the best of me, waking up in the morning; two hoes laying next to me’; as the track winds on it proceeds to delve into hefty bassline territory. Surging forward on a powerful kick and snare drum pattern, ‘Last Night’ is a sure-fire belter of a tune.

One of TNG’s producer’s to watch, take a listen below and keep your eyes peeled for more tunes from Notion here.
