‘Love & Other Drugs’ Vol. 1

‘Love & Other Drugs’ Vol. 1

Due for release on June 23rd, ‘Love & Other Drugs’ is an essential and varied collection of beats and seductive grooves, showcasing deep bass and electronic sounds from an impressive selection of artists. These are:

Lee Kelsall & James Silk feat. Blissando – ‘Never Know’

Avoiding the hardness sometimes possessed by dance music, the song is made fluid by elongated notes and softer sounds, and then juxtaposed with a more disjointed sound. Excuse my archaic slang but it’s pretty damn funky. The vocals don’t sound raw or amateurish, and the incrementing beat creates a sense of build up for the song instead of remaining on one level throughout, until it begins to wind down.

Fei-Fei – ‘So Yeah’

Mixing piano pieces with electronic elements and a strong beat, ‘So Yeah’ is a potent combination. With wild vocal additions but some weaker parts, an anti-climax is created by the build up being stronger than the actual focus. Fei-Fei have had support from artists ranging from Diplo to Claude Von Stroke (my stripper name), and as a result, this track is a pulsating fusion of classic House and heavy bass.

Moonwalk – ‘Back To My House’

Nicely paced and deep, but not overly busy, ‘Back to My House’ confidently expresses an appreciation for ‘80s European Electronica and modern Deep House. It is lyrically repetitive but somehow pulls it off without making the song monotonous. Having gained support from heavyweights such as Solomun and Tiesto, as well as being regulars on Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1 show, the Italian duo Moonwalk incorporate underused styles to offer a purely classic atmosphere.

Saccao & Syap – ‘Mafia Rules’

Placing itself more firmly in the electronic genre than the others, the vocals are warped in an effective deadpan which corresponds nicely with the deep tone. It avoids putting too much emphasis on the beat and creates a smooth, dark mood.

None of the songs are particularly lyrically equipped but there have been hundreds of amazing dance songs that haven’t had a single word in. With laid-back sounds, skilfully made, this collection is perfect for a relaxed club experience.

There is one more artist in the collection – Ganzfeld Effect with ‘Change of Subject’, which you can catch here:
