Australian duo Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen, members of the world renowned group Pendulum, formed their side project Knife Party long ago as a way to expand their playbook of genres. Responsible for some of the biggest hits the EDM scene has seen in the past three years, such as ‘Internet Friends’, ‘Bonfire’ and ‘EDM Death Machine’, the pair are now gearing up to release their debut Knife Party album entitled ‘Abandon Ship’.
Set for release on the 27th October, the recent announcement for this highly anticipated LP has sent the EDM community into fever pitch excitement – with social media going haywire about the release. If the news of a long awaited album wasn’t enough, Knife Party created even more of a fervour by unintentionally/intentionally (we don’t really think it was an accident but benefit of the doubt and all that) leaking the first single from ‘Abandon Ship’ entitled ‘Resistance’.
For the start of ‘Resistance’ the pair immediately lay down the attack of their iconic and vibrant production style. with jittery drum patterns and driving baselines leading the way forward. A sure-fire electro house banger, whilst ‘Resistance’ may not be on the same scale of glass shattering carnage as the likes of ‘Rage Valley’ or ‘Power Glove’, it holds its own as an enjoyable, well-polished and technical composition: successfully whetting the appetites of their followers in anticipation of what’s to come next.
The early leak of the single, which occurred yesterday, inclines us to think that this track has been put out there to test the water as well as providing excited fans with a taste of what’s to come. Knife Party’s official website now has a timer ticking down on the front page; after calculations the timer expires early on Monday. Does this mean Knife Party will release another single? Could potentially be the track list? Who knows!
The ploy of an early single release has paid off and the anxious wait for admirers of Knife Party’s work will just have to continue a little longer to see what’s in store. Check out the SoundCloud preview for ‘Resistance’ below, and we’ll endeavour to keep you posted as things develop!
