KILL J TEAMS UP WITH SEKUOIA ON ‘LAMP IN THE DARK’

‘dreamworld synths and sofly-lit pitched beats’ – The Line Of Best Fit

‘The two talents combine beautifully…a smooth blend of the two artist’s styles – Kill J‘s memorable vocals floating over the spacey but sensial beat’ Pigeons and Planes

In anticipation of his forthcoming debut album, Copenhagen-based purveyor of noise Sekuoia has teamed up with fellow Danish rising star KIll J on his new single, the impassioned and melodic ‘Lamp In The Dark’.

Set for release on May 27th via Nowadays Records, the track is a sensual slow jam of polished harmonies and diced textures anchored by a chain of effusive synths and slow-burning beats. Bolstered by KIll J’s trademark ghostly melodic vocals, it forms a mellow take on chillwave and house.

Touching on a number of influences – ranging from the meandering vocal samples of Flume to the cascading smoothness of Chet Faker and Lomovolokno – Sekuoia’s dreamy soundscapes are at once bewitching and hypnotic. Having previously worked with and remixed a host of acclaimed artists such as Tomas Barfod and , the Danish producer pooled his talents with alternative-pop songstress KIll J at Copenhagen’s Red Bull Studios, where the pair’s collaboration proved to be extremely fruitful. As Sekuoia puts it himself, “the process was one of the most creative things I’ve done. KIll J had some really good input regarding the production, and I had a bit of input towards some vocal aspects. For me, she was the ideal collab”.

Having won acclaim from an array of tastemakers including Radio 1’s Huw Stephens, The Guardian, Pigeons and Planes, and The Fader, KIll J has been touted as the future of Scandinavian pop music. Sung over Sekuoia’s swelling production, her soft, angelic vocal presence adds an undeniable dimension to the track, whilst imbuing it with authentic emotion. As a song that revolves around the agony of unreciprocated love, ‘Lamp In The Dark’ holds a very personal place for her: “It’s a song about being wanted, like a lamp in the dark. They would all flock around me to give me their love, and I didn’t want it. Now the tables have turned so I’m on the receiving end, and it’s agony just waiting for my heart to grow cold”.

Set to drop on 27th May, Sekuoia’s new single featuring KIll J will be followed by his highly anticipated debut album later this year. A double-pronged affair which is both irrepressibly catchy and gorgeously smooth, ‘Lamp In The Dark’ is possibly the Danish producer’s most seductive offering yet.
