Kaluki tour kicks off @ Plug in Sheffield

Kaluki tour kicks off @ Plug in Sheffield

Having recently celebrated their 7th birthday with a mind-blowing party at The Warehouse Project (pictured), Kaluki are setting themselves up for incredible 2014 as they embark on a tour of the UK with an entourage of house & techno legends – first stop, Sheffield.

Since its inception in a sweaty Manchester basement back in 2006, Kaluki, the brainchild of Sankeys resident, Elesse, has quickly climbed the ranks of the North’s fervent underground party scene. The crew’s late-night soirees have become the stuff of local legend, thanks largely to their knack of booking some of the hottest, most talented DJs. Kaluki nights are known for both proven heavyweights and future stars, but it will be two of the former – Jamie Jones and Richy Ahmed – bringing the beats to Sheffield’s Plug when the tour kicks off on April 4th.

Considered by many as chief of a new house sound, Jamie Jones has propelled himself to stardom by emerging from a minimal techno motif and destroying the confines of genre boundaries. His infinite touring schedule has taken in almost every major city in the world, with gigs at festivals like Glastonbury and Tomorrowland, clubs such as Fabric and Warung, and his very own party, Paradise, at DC-10 in Ibiza. His musical innovations are an instrumental part of his success; his label Hot Creations has been credited with constructing an iconic sound that has paved the way for a more melodic, deeper side of techno.

Also considered to be at the forefront of the new breed of DJs exemplified by Jones is one of his close contemporaries – Richy Ahmed. Hot Natured resident and part of the Hot Creations inner circle, Richy has spent the last few summers dominating some of the world’s best parties, among them, Sonar in Barcelona and We Love Space in Ibiza. Equipped with an individual sound that combines the momentum of house and disco with infectious funk-inspired grooves, his style has a discrete and inimitable edge that’s impossible to pigeonhole.

As if those two weren’t enough to guarantee a riot of a party, also in attendance will be Manchester trio, Pirate Copy (check out their WHP set, below) and a key component of the Kaluki sound, Pete Zorba. With such a legendary line-up and given the success of the 7th anniversary bash at Victoria Warehouse, this is most definitely one for the diary.
