Fresh Out the Gate: This week’s must haves

Here’s a heads up about some of the juiciest tracks dropped this week as we once again bring you our Fresh Out the Gate Selection.

ALiVE Recordings are set to drop another EP of their brand of “rave-inflicted” house with Joost Kumtome dropping ‘Just Come to Me’ on Monday. Like us you’re probably thinking ‘who’s this new Belgian DJ?’ but Joost Kumtome (apparently pronounced ‘just come to me’) is actually another super secret side-project in this hip new age of smoke and mirrors aliases. Previous incarnations of this house duo are anyone’s guess.

Top track ‘Everyone Knows’ fuses rave elements with a raw, old school garage bass and FX, swinging breakbeats and old school female vocals. ‘Better Believe It’ has much of the same feel with a sprig of UK bass. ‘Release Twist’ is a deeper proposition with a real 90’s, summer day rave essence about it.

Also out on Monday was Aaaron’s ‘What Makes You Itch’ EP. Released on the back of last year’s ‘Feelin This’, also on DFTD, up-and-coming German producer Aaaron weighs in with another three tracker of deep, rhythmic tech.

The title track cuts a powerful groove with a thudding kick and rib-rattling low tom. It twists and turns through some intricate synth play and an ever-welcome cowbell track. Panning percussion and hypnotic work in the high end suck you straight into ‘Cray’, compounded by a teasing vocal and deep, synth bass. ‘No Excuse’ keeps the focus on the drums with tons of rhythmic skins paving the way for the sinister analog bass.

Todd Terry’s (pictured) ‘Love Acid’ is back. Frole have re-dropped InHouse Record’s acid classic and loaded the package with two thumping, fresh remixes courtesy of Julien Sandre (Hot Waves, Morris Audio) and Dudley Strangeways (Back To You, Leftback).

Elsewhere, we saw Grusha Music founder Mikhail Vengerov drop ‘On the Block’ on Monday. The single features the original G-house mover plus a remix from trailblazing, London producer Vanilla Ace (Toolroom, OFF, Suara).
