Time to hit you with this week’s free tunage, sourced from the finest, most generous producers on Soundcloud. There’s actually a lot of talented artists releasing music for free if you can be arsed to look. If you’re lazy, allow us to show you.
As this feature has been going for some time now, with a fair amount of success and feedback, we thought we’d chip in with a few tips for all those budding producers out there trying to get their tracks some air time. We’ve organised them into lovely little bitesize categories for your reading pleasure.
Name. By all means call yourself what you want. Whatever fits your idea of you own persona is cool. But if your name is Cdubz$$billzmuzik, we will struggle to take you seriously. However, if your name is Admiral Bunnage, we have no choice but to take a look.
Titles. Be simple and clear. Even if you make a dubstep track with a perfect build of suspense and a breathtaking release of relentless bass, don’t fill the title with ‘SubBantz!!’, ‘bassmonster’ or ‘#siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick’ because it gives the impression you prefer making noise rather than music.
Genre. Soundcloud allows you to tag each track you put on with a genre. Now we are by no means the genre police, nor do we want to be, but for god’s sake use this feature properly and you’ll find more success.
We love honesty. ‘House’ and ‘tech’ are used very, very loosely. Genres such as ‘Fuuuuuck!!!!’, ‘DaShIT’, or our worst, ‘#YOLO’ get instantly bypassed.
Originality. We like sounds that are different. We hear a lot of ‘deep house’ with exactly the same bass sound and progression and while sometimes it sounds on trend, that niche is becoming so saturated, we just skip to the next track. We are all on a journey that is nowhere near complete, but you shouldn’t aspire to make a regular sound, find your own way to switch it up a little.
Now to the music.
First up we have a blissful deep track from Velour Fog called ‘Lovenasium’. A stuttered bass underlays dreamy chords stabs and a busy percussive track. We also bring you a more soulful house track from Hermanos Gutierrez. ‘Got the Feeling in Your Song’ has a garage feel with a soothing, looping female vocal driving the track through the well-phased composition.
A more modern vision of deep house, fused with a future garage vibe next with Ste W’s ‘Wax House EP’, available for free via a link on his Soundcloud page. It features four tracks of a consistent quality, not out of place amongst a large swathe of music we get sent by more established artists. The last two tracks in particular are definitely worthy of a d/l.
Our pick of the bunch comes from a crunchy number called ‘Flowing’ by System2. A groovy little mover indeed from the Mancunian. Now for a name we dropped before, a textbook eye-catcher. Trojiin AKA ‘Admiral Bunnage’ pipes up with an all-action, jungle-bass cut called ‘Spheric’.
We always like to throw in a little melodic DnB and this week it comes in the shape of ‘Catch My Drift’ from Mindloader. A funky, liquid jam by way of the man from Copenhagen, Catch My Drift is a breezy summertime vibe. We finish off in style with a dose of pure techno courtesy of Complicit. ‘Inteltek’ awaits your download.
Get it done.
