Hypercolour sister-label Losing Suki welcome back Bristolian twosome Forget Me Not. They’ve got latest EP ‘Everything But Love’ cued to drop next month after featuring on the label last year, with the ‘Stronger’ release.
Top track ‘Everything But Love’ is a slightly off-key, deep and rolling cut with a jumpy, raw quality juxtaposed against the warm, smooth finish. There really are two sides to this track with the floating body sandwiched betwixt more cut and thrust phrases, where the driving rhythm and groove help to boost the overall energy of the track. The vocal is bursting with garage sentiments, the keys breezy and carefree. The instrumental comes across as more than just the original minus the vocal. Without the soft voice to bind the fabric of the tune together, the different elements are given more of a platform, highlighting the switch-ups in pace and momentum.
On the flipside comes two originalés in the shape of ‘I Know’ and ‘Evil’. I Know is a future garage barrage of low, round basses, choppy perc and drums and soft xylophone arpeggiators and chord stabs. Evil is a tougher jam than any of the first three. Garage with a hint of jack and gentlevocals, it gives the EP some welcome perspective as despite similarities between the originals of the four track release, it’s the subtle differences in each individual effort that allow you to appreciate the composition as a whole.
Everything But Love is out on the 5th of the 5th, suitable for the floor or for persies. A “perfectly balanced blend of organic percussion, heavy bass and haunting vocal,” the lads’ EP is a decent selection worth checking out.
