DJ SEDATOPHOBIA – NOVA MARRIS (COMPULSIVE MOVEMENT RECORDS)

Compulsive Movement Records kicks off with a strong 12 track release by Lebanon based Dutchman DJ Sedatophobia. Entitled Nova Maris, we are told that is Latin for Fear of Silence’ and that was made over seven months after the artist took a course by revered producer Mike Monday. Stuffed with many musical genres and plenty of influences, it is a refreshing proposition to be sure.

After a wonky intro, Into the Waves, Into the Night is a succulent eight minute trip with all sorts of colourful melodies, organic sounds and loose grooves that are filled with sunshine. Deep Down then hits a little harder with boom bap drums and raw synths drilling deep into the groove.

As the album unfolds, plenty of different moods are explored. Insomniac is a melodic number with colourful keys rolling down the face of crunchy beats and tooting bass really props the whole thing up. The likes of Dyskinesias then offers more colourful melodic sounds that roll and get funky, and tracks like Step in show the artist is a real master of infectious loops and knows how to layer them up into something essential.

Closing out on some tougher cuts, there are plenty of futuristic synth lines, frazzled percussive sounds and nervously energetic cuts like Jitters to really make for some essential back room grooves. All in all this is a fine effort from this Dutchman.

Nova Marris is is out now on Compulsive Movement Records, purchase via Beatport here.
