Colossus – ‘The Road’ EP

No matter how long Drum & Bass has been around for, there is always something so refreshing about it when it’s done right. Enter Toby Tinwell, otherwise known as Colossus, boss man of Rush Records, who’s brought out a string of new releases that have all been original in design. Which brings about the point that sometimes D&B can be an unfortunate stalemate, time and time again, producers slap an Amen Break on some synths, repeat for 4 minutes and you’ve got a track… those poor old Winstones just didn’t have a clue hey.

There is light at the end of the tunnel though, Colossus has a certain air to him that demands a little respect in a world where it’s hard to stand out, especially in the D&B scene. His new EP ‘The Road’ provides 4 tracks of pure gold. The winning formula on the haunting ‘What I Want’ in particular has perfect timing, with unsuspecting drops and tiptoed piano rifts… all melted together somehow with just the right balance and it’s exciting to see such talent come out into the open. It’s no surprise why his music is making waves and getting supported then, you can check him out here, including his new releases…
