After the success of his ‘Back to Bed’ track on ‘The Borrasca’ EP, Andy Reynolds debuts on the North East’s Sidetrack Records with deep, tech house, two-tracker ‘Serious About Snares’. As a DJ, Andy Reynolds has performed alongside the likes of Yousef, NiCe7 and Todd Terry, now he turns his hands to producing his own beats with this, his maiden solo EP.
The first of two floor-orientated jams from the Middlesbrough man is the title track. ‘Serious About Snares’ is a bass-heavy groove with MC licks, whirring FX and off-key organ stabs. A heads-down sound from the underground with bags of attitude. Despite coming on the flip, we think ‘Fiendish’ is the better of the two tracks. A deep and lively cut, with a roving bassline, off-set by chopped vox and synth play. Much more uptempo than the first and a strong finish to back up the A side.
A bite size portion it may be, but this little sucker packs plenty of punch minus any unnecessary padding. It looks like Andy Reynolds might be one to keep an eye out for.
