8Bit Records will release the ‘Bombero Calling’ EP (8BIT235) by Peruvian producer, Chinonegro, on October 24th. The release will be digital only.
Chinonegro (real name Jorge Dávila Juárez) is a DJ/producer from Peru who has steadily gained recognition in the Latin American and global electronic music scenes, with his set at Ultra Peru this year being widely-praised online. Known for combining dark groove-driven house with Latin-influenced percussive elements, he has previously released music on labels such as Crosstown Rebels, Mindshake, and Elrow, as well as 8bit.
The EP’s title track, ‘Bombero Calling’ leads with crisp drum programming, organic percussion, sub-bass lines, and vocal chants. The second track, ‘Signorina’, delivers smoother vocals over intricate percussion and evolving synth textures. ‘Boogie’ takes a dub house turn with driving rhythms, stabs, and vocals, while ‘Surrounded By Purple’ concludes the EP with acid-tinged synths, airy atmospheres, dubbed chords, and funk-inspired organ melodies.
Based in Mannheim, Germany, 8Bit Records has for nearly 20 years now positioned itself as a home for groove-oriented house and techno. Founded by Nick Curly, a mainstay of the modern house scene, alongside fellow German DJ and producer, Gorge, AKA Pit Waldmann, the label is no stranger to organic house. This release, however, seems to represent a more pronounced incorporation of the Latin sound and could perhaps indicate a lean into somewhat new territory for the label.
