Sunday 29th May
Brockwell Park, Brixton
This Spring, GALA brings to South-London a fete of independent music, food and drink. Playing host to the cream of South London’s eclectic food scene, bars and parties, for one day only. Set against the backdrop of Brockwell Park, GALA will add a dash of the unorthodox to the May Bank Holiday weekend, turning the classic village fete-feel on it’s head, with an injection of 2016.
On Sunday 29th May, GALA will fuse the tight-knit community feel of the Village Fete to City vibe, with local restaurant’s offering unique, never seen before dishes. Chefs and restaurants joining GALA have amassed huge recognition in recent times, and are undoubtedly at the forefront of the South-London food scene.
Each chef or restaurant will create a unique, seasonal and never before seen offering, including dishes from Brixton’s small-plate Indian pop-up Kricket, winners of the London Pizza Festival Made of Dough, Caribbean beach-shack food from Rum Kitchen, and seasonal and inventive dishes from Brixton’s best-loved Salon.
Headlining GALA 2016 will be Nightmares on Wax, Norman Jay, Crazy P, Tornado Wallace & Rayko who will be found across the main and second stage, supporting them the residents from each music partner, including Stevie Wonderland, Red light disco and Gin and Juice. A third area hosted by “the Boatshed” will be live and unplugged acoustic sets from the likes of Rudy Blu & Emily Harvey. This stage will also be offering open mic for the brave…
Drink sponsors will be devoted to GALA being drenched with bespoke, summer-inspired cocktails – including those from the Aperol Spritz Bar – to drink as guests join the merrymaking, and take part in some not-so-traditional fete games devised for the modern festival goer: expect updated versions of the classic British fete, and anticipate a visit from Ben the Party Vicar, in charge of ensuring GOOD TIMES to all.
GALA will also be welcoming cocktail connoisseur Neil Donachie, mixologist of the Beaufort Bar, The Savoy, who will be using his experience at the forefront of the London cocktail scene to curate a unique cocktail menu for the the one-day event: expect fresh, seasonal, and delicious long drinks.
Local London brewery Brixton Brewery and Northumberland based Wylam Brewery will also be present, with GALA presenting its very own bespoke-brewed ale, the “GALA Smooth Rider”, made exclusively for the occasion by Wylam.
All fete game proceeds will be shared between two charities who are integral to the long-term preservation and up-keep of Brockwell Park: “Brockwell Park Community Members” and “Friends of Brockwell park”.
GALA will truly be a feast for all the senses; with plenty of fun and games thrown in to this avant-garde, city-fete: guests will be eased into the festival season, with this fresh take on the traditional village fete.
