Festival Guide: Sunburn Goa 2014 Makes First Line Up Announcements

Asia’s biggest dance music festival – the amusingly titled Sunburn Goa – has announced the first phase of their 2014 lineup. Taking place between 27th and 29th December in Vagator Goa, India, the festival celebrates the populist EDM genre and will feature performances from some of the highest achievers DJ Mags recently-announced Top 100 list.

This is just the first phase of the festival’s line up announcements, with more still to come! Attracting a global crowd of over 160,000 to the event, Sunburn has also forged a reputation for curating events with all the big names. DJ Mag’s current no. 1 DJ Hardwell has played in previous years, as have David Guetta, Swedish House Mafia and Tiësto.

The festival’s location has a deep-rooted heritage in electronic music, with Goa Trance becoming a globally recognised movement in the late 80s. Continuing this long tradition, Sunburn are looking to write the next chapter in Goa’s illustrious dance music history. As Swedish House Mafia member Axwell puts it: “When I play for money I play Vegas, when I play for holidays I play Miami, when I play for love I play India”.

Big names announced for 2014 include Knife Party, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Sander Van Doorn, Krewella, long time dance icons Paul Oakenfold and Sasha, the experimental Bauuer, Makj have just been announced as part of the festival’s line-up this winter. On top of this Oliver Dollar, Dubvision, Danny Avila, Deniz Koyu, long time house favourite Michael Woods, Paris Blohm, Far Too Loud and New World Sound will also be in attendance.

Rounding off the line up is a selection of India’s burgeoning talents, with Anish Sood, Algorhythm, Delhi Sultante X Begum x (Live), Dualist Inquiry Band (Live), Joshi, EZ Riser, Shaan, Reggae Rajahs and many more contributing. Sunburn revelers can also expect to find a dedicated ‘Sunburn Goa’ psy-trance stage at this year’s festival, with a whole host of other activities at their disposal such as stunt biking, zorbing, volleyball and bungee jumping.

With the first two phases of early bird tickets selling out in a matter of hours and another phase of artists soon to be announced, this year’s Sunburn looks set to firmly establish India as a major player in global dance culture. Pick up your own tickets here.
