Fantastic Mr Fox – ‘You Turn’ EP

Fantastic Mr Fox – ‘You Turn’ EP

Fantastic Mr Fox has been producing since the age of fourteen. Based in Berlin but originally hailing from Manchester/Wolverhampton, he has become known for his sample-based genre-splicing techniques born out of the practices of hip hop and house music.

With a small yet respectable catalogue of Hemlock and Black Acre EP’s under his belt, Fantastic Mr Fox (real name Stephen Gomberg) follows up on his summer single ‘On My Own’ feat. Denai Moore with new single ‘You Turn’. Whilst his LP has been waiting in the wings for some time now, the release of ‘Your Turn’ is served up with hints that the FMF LP will now drop in 2015.

Whilst we wait, FMF teams up with US isolationist and icy voiced songwriter Kid A to drop a slice of broken electronic pop. Embodying the retro pop sounds of the 80’s, they construct something that both harks back to the past and still manages to sound fresh and revitalised. Calling to mind artists past and present from The Human League to M83, on ‘You Turn’ Kid A’s steely vocals ride rich, hyperactive percussion with a grime lilt on the low-end. As she repeats the melancholic hook “give me back my love”

On the flip, South-London based producer Visionist provides his own grimy remix of ‘You Turn’ – reeling things back a notch and pulling out the energetic percussive rhythms to leave a whirling bassline to do most of the work with well-placed synth interjections creating a frosty vibe.

Out on October 20th through the Black Acre imprint, take a listen to the SoundCloud preview below and pick up your pre-orders here.
