Brian Cid – ‘Red Wood / Myst’

Brian Cid – ‘Red Wood / Myst’

When he’s not busy playing a set in Pacha or Sankeys, our fave Brooklyn Boy Brain Cid is back at work creating some brand spanking new tunes.

The tech and deep house DJ, who was born and raised in the Dominican Republic, has dropped some serious vibes with these and hasn’t been a stranger: sticking to his usual melancholy beats and uber cool chords. His energy and enthusiasm is apparent in ‘Red Wood’ and his Latin roots shine through for the likes of ‘Myst’. It is inspiring how two tracks released together can sound and feel so very different. Having been mentored by legendary house DJ Todd Terry, Brian’s work is comparable to some of the best DJ’s in music including Swedish House Mafia, particularly their set in Pacha 2009 and also at Manchester’s very own Warehouse Project.

Brian has described his journey this year as “being focused” and “developing” his sound even further. On 10th September ‘Red Wood’ was voted number one on the Swedish radio station Tunnel FM’s Top 20, which is a fantastic achievement for the impending release on September 15th. Brian Cid is truly one to look out for and you can keep up to date with him by logging onto his official site.

First let’s talk about ‘Myst’. This track is somewhat refreshing and invigorating if you can even describe music in that way? At first, we spend those glorious few moments waiting for the beat to kick which creates an exciting but anxious atmosphere. There are some real earthy vibes hidden among the tribal beats and dewy chords, which is why the title is so fitting. The break comes three minutes into the track and at this point the church-like bells are apparent before the tempo picks up once again. Cid is known for using soulful female vocals in his work and this number is no exception. As we await the cold winter months here in the UK, ‘Myst’ lets us leave the world behind and live in the summer for just a bit longer!

B-side ‘Redwood’ instantly catapults us into a fast-paced and almost train-like rhythm. Haunted by the cries of a small child, this eerie masterpiece leaves you feeling lost in the music. You can almost imagine yourself walking through a jungle, through the unknown. The constant upkeep of the tempo is surprising as he continues to pick up and drop the beat throughout. It is as if Brian is trying to represent a never ending cycle like water, a substance constantly flowing and cannot be stopped. There is apprehension within the music which is teasing for the listener and Brian Cid hits it spot on with this track.

Having already received support from a diverse collection of DJ’s including Hot Since 82, Richie Hawtin, Roger Sanchez, Luciano, Paul Oakenfold, Todd Terry, Steve Lawler, Umek, Danny Tenaglia, DJ Sneak, Stacey Pullen and many more, this new release looks set to cause some commotion! Released on Guy J’s Lost and Found label on September 15th, make sure to check out the preview below whilst you wait for Monday to come around!
