HOT TIP: Rootkit

Following on from my introductory General J mix, I’ll be shedding some light on my EDM picks for you and unearthing some diamonds in the rough – all currently on the brink of a big break in the EDM world. First came Teminite, now it’s time to get acquainted with Rootkit! 

Norwegian teenager Rootkit dropped his latest single ‘Ambush’ for free through Monstercat just over a week ago. At only sixteen his SoundCloud is already full to the brim with original productions and remixes, through which he continually demonstrates a fluid and well-honed style. Surely the future can only get better for this youthful producer as he continues to enforce his forte on the realm of EDM.

Staying close to his production Drum and Bass roots (excuse the pun!), on his most recent track ‘Ambush’ Rootkit throws down an elaborate and captivating rhythm over a household D&B drum loop. With the overall chaos punctuated by a small break, allowing for a second filthy drop at around 2.30, this incendiary tune lives up to its name. With the added extras of punchy vocal samples and the sounds of a ticking time bomb, as a whole Rootkit makes the appropriately titled ‘Ambush’ a worthwhile download full of excitement and vigour.

Collaborating with the likes of Canadian singer Danyka Nadeau and recently remixing popular tracks by artists Au5 and Savant, Rootkit already has his foot in the door to garner more accolades – his rise could reach new heights as the year continues on. Imagine what powerhouse tunes he could create with his potential, with ‘Ambush’ already a smashing success!
