Indiji – ‘Darknet’ / ‘Shake the Foundations’

Following his knock-out debut release ‘Machine Dread’, a distinctly dark and tribal affair which captured the attention of much of dubstep’s elite, Uprise Audio newcomer Indiji drops a second loaded gun in the form of the ‘Darknet’ EP.

Indiji has been making waves within bass music circles since his debut on Uprise Audios’s best selling ‘Live From The Future Extended Edition’ album released earlier in the year. His track ‘Machine Dread’ – which sat alongside new material from Chewie, label head Seven and fellow newcomer LSN, as well as VIP’s and remixes from artists such as Aslyum, Altair and Stealth -sparked the interests of several dubstep heavyweights and led to his beats becoming a staple in the sets of Youngsta, J Kenzo and Vivek.

A producer whose genre repertoire ranges far beyond bass music, Indiji began making dubstep in 2006. After hearing Skream’s self-titled debut, released in the same year, he decided to stop making grime and get his teeth stuck into UK bass. Raised on soul and dub reggae by his parents, the ‘dub’ element of dubstep clearly resonates with him and this is evident in his productions. Combining the old-school influences of the genre with the modern edge the sound has today, Indiji is an excellent fit for Seven’s influential Uprise Audio label. Back to deliver his second release, his new EP showcases two new tracks: ‘Darknet’ and ‘Shake the Foundations’.

‘Darknet’, the lead track on the release, opens with a sparse, ticking snare and ominous drones before launching into an assault of heavy sub bass and ricocheting percussion. As a producer Indiji knows how to build atmosphere through an introduction, and constructs an ominous vibe on the track through the use of drones and rumbling bass. Fleshed out with those signature tight mids which are fast becoming a distinguishing feature of his production style, ‘Darknet’ is deep, dark and cinematic with a futuristic twist.

‘Shake the Foundations’ delivers another eerie, surging introduction with the use of muted sci-fi esque synths and a snare which licks the beat along until the drop – marked by a vocal clip commanding listeners to ‘Shake the Foundations’. A heads-down nodder, it is no surprise this track is a favourite in the sets of both Youngsta and Vivek. Carried along by a rolling drum beat and threatening low-end rumbles, this is one to be enjoyed on a dark dance floor through some seriously heavy speakers.

Set for release on 28th July, head over to Juno Download to see about getting your hands on a copy. In the mean time, check the SoundCloud preview below.
