Suddenly Strange – ‘All But Forgotten’

Suddenly Strange – ‘All But Forgotten’

Florida’s finest Suddenly Strange weaves Techno, Minimal, House and Deep House all into one neat bundle for his debut track, brought to you courtesy of Dash Deep Records. The product, ‘All But Forgotten’ is a modest track bursting with contemporary sounds, set for release on August 11th.

‘All But Forgotten’ runs along a steady Techno beat, tripping up on subtle additions and effects along the way, such as the clapped backbeats and resonating finger clicks. Futuristic synths ripple through the melody and draw it together, filling in the bareness of the song. The beat remains the focal point up until halfway, where it opens out to softer ground. The synths take possession of the song, tipping the genre into Deep House and dissolving the repetitive feel of Techno, until the beat breaks through once more. The song then settles into a hard-soft compromise, bobbing with urban beats but cushioned by low synths.

This harmony is disturbed by the sudden silencing of all musical elements in the song excluding the synths, which elongate into stretched, modern cry. This then tumbles into a snare roll, which collapses back into the harmonious tune carried throughout. This gives it a well-rounded quality and ties all the loose ends of the song together, knotting the seemingly individual riffs into one.

‘All But Forgotten’ is cool and easy, the kind of song that compels you to nod your head, or if you’re feeling totally wild, maybe even tap your foot. But it is monotonous and consequentially forgettable, which can’t really be a criticism of the song itself as it is really a criticism towards its genre. Even so, it possesses the relaxed tone and subtle flare that perfectly fits a chilled party or winding down club.

I was also thoroughly amused to find that Suddenly Strange did a remix of the ‘Ain’t Nobody Got Time Fo’ Dat’ video:
