Free Tracks: This week’s pick from the tunebank

Here’s our weekly dose of free tunage from the world of dance and pound for pound it’s probably the best week we’ve had to get you ballin’ on a budget with a big, established artist showing their altruistic side and a handful of rock-solid up and comers.

Top of the bill is a ‘cheeky’ little g-house track from Cologne’s Sharam Jey. Fusing a disco beat with that moody bassline and intense yet distant vocal, this one’s our highlight of a very strong pick.

Next up comes some free noise courtesy of Hijinkx and Foreign Language Records. A heavy kick and chord stabs dominate this stripped-back house cut, ‘Look At That’ is definitely worth a spin.

Next is a chilled, 2-stepper from Lloyd Haze & House of Mirrors with the former putting it up for grabs for free. A dreamy vocal and sweet melody make ‘Stay High’ a cert for the list.

Keeping it chilled a lovely little edit of ginger-haired Manc, Simply Red’s ‘Holding Back the Years’ namely, ‘When You’re Simply Ready’.

Not quite sure how to take this one but you cannot argue with the energy generated by a screwface bassline and Dizzee’s vocal over the top. Tom Garnett’s remix of ‘Fix Up Look Sharp’ is a raw, 4×4 bassline, throwback laced with one of the original mainstream grime tracks.

Elsewhere is an understated deep house track from Manchester’s South Seven. Sounds to us like the pitched-down vocals are saying ‘derby day’, maybe it’s a Manchester thing. A well-crafted, driving, groove the latest evidence of a growing, authentic Mancunian sound.

Last up is a free gift from Baker Street Recordings. Paul Hardy & McKai release their remake of ‘Time Will Tell’. A relaxed house vibe with meandering marimbas and an ethereal female vocal.
