Monday Club – ‘Way U Do’ EP

Monday Club – ‘Way U Do’ EP

Heads up! Enigmatic twosome Monday Club have a weighty EP coming up on Alive Recordings. The meaty four-tracker has Monday Club original’s in ‘Way U Do’ and the ‘Basement Club’ mix, as well as two remixes from Cera Alba and a rocket from Tanka.

‘Way U Do’ is a deep and cerebral house cut. A driving bassline, snapping percussion and distorted female vocals help the track deliver a heavy payload. The only minor perhaps the piping, synth lead feels a smidge obvious. The Basement Club mix turns the lead on its head, bringing a new life to the track. The clap has a lot more bite and the vocal is used more sparingly making the whole track feel so much more balanced.

Successfully swerving the tired, old cliché of saving the best ’til last, next up comes Tanka’s offering. His ‘Sleep Deprivation’ mix is the dominant track on a reet rum bunch of cuts from Alive. It builds with menace and mischief as analog sounds probe the sinister spectrum of noise, FX and pitched-down, vocal utterances. The second drop takes it to a new level and we fully expect, hope even, to be hearing this as we bring you our coverage of 2014’s festival season.

Cera Alba’s been popping up all over the place having seen releases on Hot Creations and Gruuv among others and finishes off our roundup of the EP. His mix is another dose of deep – the vocal used to add a haunting sense of suspense as the rhythm builds. At times low key and others deadly serious, it’s a decent inclusion to a quality quartet.

After waxing lyrical about the Sleep Deprivation mix, in the end there’s probably not a lot between any of these floor-ready, rollers. Find a preview of Cera Alba’s below and keep an eye for the others as the leak. The ‘Way U Do’ EP drops on the 7th April.
