Google has released a mind-blowing tool – Music Timeline – for charting the popularity of music over time. The ravenous data scranners at Google headquarters have collected an unthinkable amount of information analysing the history of pretty much all music in the post-war era and give you the ability to see which genres and even which individual artists have garnered most attention in the public sphere.
Just to test its reach, we searched for unreasonably-obscure artists like Detroit pioneer Blake Baxter, novelty acts such as the Vengaboys and the more prominent 2Pac to take a look at the astonishing results. There’s hours of fun for music geeks like us!
