Right, the weekend’s gone, Monday’s here, back to work, uni, life, mundanity. Forget all that, we’ve got a handful of hotties to bring back that Saturday feeling and wipe out those Monday blues!
First up on Flosshat comes Ritmo de Vela’s ‘Studio Junkie’ EP. Top track ‘Studio Junkie’ gets straight down to business with a healthy dose of jalapeño house. An assured and vibrant sound ready to funk up any fiesta. Hard-hitting beats and teasing chords, this track delivers the truly international flavour of tech house.
The ‘Ghetto Mix’ of the title track comes courtesy of JR from Dallas who brings his signature body-jackin’, Chicago-town sound. Deep and dirty tech house beats and bass aplenty from the French DJ/Producer.
Also featured on the EP is ‘The Funk’. A no-holds-barred, runaway-train of a track with hyped sample-work it comes as a loud and clear response to Catz ‘N Dogz’ call for ‘Hush’, a track which it bears a slight resemblance to. Look our for the heavy, hip hop-inspired yet quintessentially tech house breakdown. The Furmit ‘Hiccup Remix’ of The Funk throws a spanner in the works for a carnival take on the original.
DeepWit are set to drop their latest release which sees Canada’s Reagan Grey take on a new alias in Agent Libre. Her name is already one that is popping up all over the gaff and her new moniker is set to focus on the “deep, smooth side of house and techno.” The ‘Miles Away’ EP is exactly that. The title track would put a shift in on any dancefloor, dreamy pads lifting the direct and determined bassline and wistful summer vocals.
Like a Maetrik mix of a Maceo Plex track, Reagan has attempted the mind-boggling task of remixing one of her tunes, under a different alias. Of course we doubt whether that’s actually as absurd an undertaking as we make it out. Nevertheless the “Reagan Grey Remix” takes the vibe up a notch and crashing snares and swelling pads build to an altogether deeper, darker cut for the EP. Alvaro Hylander finishes off the three-tracker with his more melodic take on ‘Miles Away’.
The velvet sounds of S.Chu’s debut on Defected is the last track on our preview of things to come over the next week or so. ‘Closure’ is a deep, soulful song and the perfect note to finish on. Terri Walker provides a thoughtful and uplifting vocal over rich piano chords and stuttering bass hits. Plenty of pad work keeps the nostalgia flowing giving this track a burning sadness but a powerful sense of defiance and hope, just what we need to get us through the week!
