The Nordic wonderkid is at it again! Not For the Very First Time, Swedish Producer HNNY follows up the success of the ‘Yearning’ EP with a three-track cracker on Local Talk.
Lead track, ‘Tears’, is a deep house stomper with a vocal that hangs over the track like haze on a hot day – don’t let it fool you ‘cos this track can burn! Similar to his previous two releases on Local Talk, HNNY blends powerful vocal cuts with more subtle instrumental elements and a roving bassline. Described by Jimpster as his “favourite Local Talk release yet”, the EP leads us into the New Year with support by DJs across the continent and beyond.
B-side track, ‘Gymnastics’, switches the focus from deep house to disco. It might be Swedish but, without a doubt, ‘Gymnastics’ is more Shaft than ABBA, more Huggy Bear than Lykke Lie, and put together better than any IKEA flat-pack. All strings and roundabouts, this fresh track with a classic feel is the perfect blend of groove, with a dash of HNNY that Huxley described as: “a great record to turn a night on its head!” Finishing it all off is ‘No Tears’ – more than just a vocal-free dub, ‘No Tears’ delves deeper in the mix with a few added ingredients to make the track a banger in its own right.
All-in-all, a trio of tracks to keep the winter blues away. Three different cuts with three different feels, but the same quality we’ve come to expect from HNNY and Stockholm-based label, Local Talk. The Tears EP has had overwhelming support from the likes of Detroit Swindle, Jacques Renault, Danny Krivit, Horsemeat Disco, Le Fleur and Charles Webster, not to mention glowing reviews from Ripperton, Shadow Child and TEED, to name a few.
