Ben Klock laughs off Boiler Room parody

Underground techno hero, Ben Klock, has taken a parody of his recent Boiler Room performance on the chin, dispelling rumours that he has no sense of humour.

During his set at the Liquid Rooms in Edinburgh on Saturday, he courageously dropped the theme tune to Grandstand, a jingle that will be familiar to many readers as the soundtrack to one of Britain’s longest-running TV sport programmes, which aired on BBC1 from 1958 to 2007.

To almost everyone on the club, it will have been a highly recognisable household sound, nonetheless the crowd was dumbfounded – although suitably amused – until Klock gave a knowing smile to the camera before cleverly dropping back into thunderous techno with no small amount of aplomb.

The stunt was a good-natured response to a viral parody video in which the footage of his Boiler Room set was dubbed with various animal noises and, of course, the Grandstand theme, which is deftly placed at a point where, on the night, Ben must have been pulling out the big guns and the too-cool-for-school Berlin crowd is going mental.

Check out Klock’s brilliant response, below, and pay particular note to how he gets back to business afterwards – the lad’s got some skills…
