New underground music movement, Tectonic Sound, is treating Sheffield to another Steel City debut next Friday (October 11th) in the form of the almighty Friend Within.
Following in the footsteps of DJ Sneak, Kerri Chandler and Gorgon City, the rising Liverpool star will take to the decks at Sheffield’s very own “house dedicated” Fez Club, for a night that’s not to be missed by anyone who appreciates bass-heavy 4/4 beats.
Never experienced Fez Club before? Well, think dark, low-ceilinged warehouse, drenched in graffiti and you’re along the right lines. Couple it with state-of-the-art Funktion-One sound, incredible light and laser systems, and you’re there.

With releases on Method Music, Hypercolour, Dirtybird and PETS, not to mention various remixes for the likes of Mausi and Fenech-Soler, he’s an artist that’s been almost impossible to characterise but even tougher to overlook since he exploded onto the electronic music scene in early 2013.
Overnight success is rare, but Friend Within is an exception to the rule. Seemingly unheard of before this year, he has become popular among dance music’s royalty in a very short space of time. From guest appearances on T.Williams’ Rinse FM show, to radio plays by Skream and Benga, Annie Mac, B Traits and Mistajam, alongside DJ gigs in pretty much every major city in the UK, there’s no denying the impact this enigmatic producer has made.
In recent months, Friend Within has been living up to his name, following an invitation to feature on Red Bull Studios’ Monki & Friends collaboration project, working alongside Karma Kid and Yasmin. Their track, ‘Feeling (So Special)’, is a corker, still gathering momentum online, in the clubs and on the radio. FW’s release on Disclosure’s Method Music imprint, a massive rework of the classic ‘Renegade Master’, has been championed throughout the summer on the festival circuit and out in Ibiza.
Excited? Well, that’s not all! Joining Friend Within will be Birmingham duo Brekfast Club, Sheffield house collective, Denham Audio, and Tectonic Sound’s very own residents, the very talented Tippa and Ben Earley.
Dedicated to bringing fresh acts into the Steel City, while unearthing and showcasing some of Sheffield’s finest local talent, Tectonic Sound have lived up to their ethos with an impressive line-up that won’t disappoint. Mark my words, this is going to be heavy!
