A-Wing are returning to what is one of the UK’s most jaw-dropping venues; a prison housed in Lancaster Castle and owned by the Duchy of Lancaster, which looks out across the historic city, will host Pete Tong, Mark Knight and High Contrast across the second May bank holiday weekend.

Before A-Wing began, this area of Lancashire has never seen anything like the talent who have already graced the decks; previous A-Wing guests include Derrick Carter, Rob Da Bank, James Zabiela, Carl Craig, The 2 Bears, Graeme Park, Mike Pickering and Dimitri from Paris. And this three-date weekend continues the ethos of bringing outstanding talent to perform at a quite incredible venue.

Friday 23rd May at A-Wing is all about drum and bass. Selected by Pete Tong – more about him shortly – for the Essential Mix of the year in 2007, High Contrast is one of the UK’s leading exponents of the sound. He is a Fabric regular in London and one of the most sought after DJs around. High Contrast is joined by Metrik, part of the legendary Hospital Records stable and has remixed for Eric Prydz, DJ Fresh and Ellie Goulding, Sub Focus, Gorgon City and many more. Lancaster’s very own The Bass Race DJs open the party up.

Saturday 23rd May is all about house music, with a very special debut. Mark Knight has proven a rare and wonderful breed of integral house heavyweight. With a career spanning more than a decade, the Grammy-nominated DJ/producer has never rested on the laurels of being one of the industry’s most respected and accomplished UK players to date. His Toolroom Records continues to be one of the world’s taste-making house labels, and he champions the next generation of talent breaking through. Local DJs Matt Thiss and Josh Lee support Mark at A-Wing.

Finally, the third part of the weekend finishes rather majestically, with one of dance music’s true icons coming to Lancaster: Pete Tong. There are few individuals in the world of dance music who can claim the kind of influence Pete has had over the last twenty years. As the voice of Radio 1’s prestigious dance programming, his unique position has earned him a reputation as the global ambassador of dance music. With an unparalleled ear for new talent, Pete has become the leading tastemaker of the electronic generation and remains arguably one of the important figures in dance music’s rich history, bringing all of experience to a climax at A-Wing. Joining him is Sonny Wharton, one of the UK’s brightest young talents who has played at everywhere from Amnesia and Space to Pacha and Ministry Of Sound – as well as to over a million people at the Berlin Love Parade – to helming his own Wharton Records label. James Ryan completes the lineup.

Until March 2011 parts of Lancaster Castle were still used as a category C prison. Its intimate capacity and two floors are relatively untouched since the departure of the final inmate. Equipped throughout with Funktion-1, A-Wing’s bank holiday weekend promises to be a brilliant weekend of music.
