Vohkinne – ‘Creole Rhythm’ EP

Label boss Vohkinne provides the 3^rd release on Atrophic Society. A 3 track EP that sees a return to his signature sound, as well as something a little less traditional.

‘Creole Rhythm’ opens with the title track of the same name. A diving kick carries the cold, raw analogue riff in a perilous fashion; and despite it following a simple 4/4 structure, you never quite know when a change is going to occur as you drift into the madness. It’s without doubt menacing, and borderline terrifying when the kick is reined in allowing that chilling synth to dance in the limelight with rough percussion backing. The A is frenzied, and so typically Vohkinne. The B2 is something a bit different however, ‘Be Like the Sun’ focuses on atmosphere. Loud, aggressive waves of noise duel with sedative pads and reverberated crackles. An appropriate soundtrack to someone standing on a cold pebble beach in the dead of night.

Tripeo is on remix duty of ‘Creole Rhythm’. Hints of the rough percussion reverberate on the surface whilst an alternated lead riff begins to fade in. Both are greeted by high hats, right on time. The timing is incredibly satisfying on this record, right as the insanity begins to feel overpowering Tripeo switches it to a stripped down driving clap and what sounds like an extremely resonant dial up tone. Both glide their way to another welcomed round of insanity.
