TNG Chart Update: Techno

TNG Chart Update

The final piece of The Noise Gate jigsaw puzzle is here today as we give you the final part of our weekly chart update series. After covering various forms of electronic dance music – such as Deep House; Bassline, Electro House, Drum and Bass and Dubstep – we now conclude TNG’s update list with one of the original dance music genres: Techno.

Techno

In this week’s chart we have the likes of Sam Paganini; Traumer, Recondite and Moderat plus many more all vying to be to be the top dog at number 1 in our chart. So with me, TNG’s very own General J, let’s find out as I generate our run down from tenth to first!

Beginning with the outer limits of our chart in at number 10 is a track that has lasted nearly a month in the BeatPort charts in fifth position, its Fur Coat with ‘U-Turn’. The 80s synthesizer distortion effect comes to play primarily in this tune released through record label Crosstown Rebels as the Venezuelan producer serves up more his of usual style of thumping subterranean basslines.

Our number 9 this week and continuing with our Hispanic sector of techno artists in our chart, we have Kwartz with ‘Form & Void’. Released nearly two weeks ago through record label Polegroup, the Spaniard; Kwartz has constructed nearly 6 minutes worth of pulsing fluidity with this continuously entertaining piece of techno. ‘Form & Void’ is full of overlapping patterns to create a sense of trance to any listener who comes across it.

In this week at number 8, is Lorenz Brunner otherwise known as his pseudonym Recondite with ‘DRGN2’, distributed at the beginning of September through Hotflush Recordings. This banger by the German producer has a lot of muffled syncopations that gives the feeling of a quirky but an enticing tune that is most definitely worth checking out.

Ideal Audio’s published our number 7 nearly two weeks ago with ‘Agua’ by Oliver Huntemann and Dubfire featuring vocals by German artist Xenia Beliayeva. Another techno production that has a fluctuating flow throughout, this track packs a punch with its surging basslines and the implementation of heavy kicks. The partnership of Oliver Huntemann and Ali Shirazinia a.k.a Dubfire, have truly created a captivating techno track that they can be proud of.

Moving on to our number 6, and currently sitting at number three in BeatPort is Sam Paganini with ‘Another Chance’. Released last Monday (15th) through Drumcode, the experienced producer is looking gain even further plaudits and he most certainly will with this track. The composition of addictive trippy synthesis is at the core of this song and with it being part of his latest album ‘Satellite’. After riding the crest of a wave of success in 2013 – leading various charts with his previous EP releases such as ‘Body To Body’ and ‘Black Leather’- Sam Paganini’s sensational musical journey seems it will continue with the release of ‘Satellite’ and with it containing ‘Another Chance’ it will benefit to make another big year for the Italian.

At the halfway mark at number 5, the owner of Manchester based label Prime Numbers, Trus’Me has released another worldy of a techno tune with ‘I Want You’. However, this time his hit ‘I Want You’ has had a specific twist in the perspective of Alan Fitzpatrick. The remix released back in August has withstood the test of time for now as it is still in the Top 5 at Juno. Alan Fitzpatrick has thrown his flavour into the mix of ingredients of the already spectacular ‘I Want You’, by giving it an energy boost of bass to establish a new rave anthem of 2014 – expect to hear this in the near future!

Just missing out on the podium this week is Parisian producer Traumer with ‘Hoodlum’ released through Desolat back in mid-July. ‘Hoodlum’ originally part of Traumer’s latest prosperous EP ‘Dedust’; this bouncy affair without a shadow of a doubt could hang around a lot longer because of its hypnotising simplicity in the sound production. With ‘Hoodlum’ already locked in at number two in BeatPort, expect this tune to stay around or have the possibility to go that one step higher to take top spot.

In at a very respectable number 3 in TNG’s Techno update this week is the new school mix of ‘Stupid Things I Do’ by Randomer distributed in mid-August by Dutch record label Clone Basement Series. The Londoner’s distinct version of ‘Stupid Things I Do’ is six-and-a half minutes of infatuating crashing bass sounds, a recommendation to any bass head needing a fix of wall-to-wall resonance.

Pipped at the post into second place this week is DJ Koze’s remix of ‘Bad Kingdom’ by supergroup Moderat – the collaboration of Modeselektor and Apparat. The mix released through Monkeytown records in Germany nearly three months ago, shows it is a stalwart favourite with the Techno community over at Juno. The original already gained critical acclaim, receiving airplay through BBC 6Music via Lauren Laverne a year ago but with the addition of DJ Koze’s twist of style, the remix of ‘Bad Kingdom’ has maintained the grimy sounding synth production and haunting ambience. However, DJ Koze has ramped up every aspect of this piece and blended in a fascinating backbeat and distortions of his own.

Topping the TNG Techno update for this week is a second entry by Berlin native, Recondite with ‘Caldera’. The success of this release earlier this month, once again through Hotflush Recordings, has done ‘Caldera’ no justice with the tune remaining in the top 5 of both Juno and BeatPort; the single has also spread like a wildfire through the community on SoundCloud. The eerie sounds of the chimes and synth chords along with the forceful kicks of bass has made a culmination worthy of making its mark worldwide as a brilliant techno production by Recondite and most deservingly at number 1 at The Noise Gate Techno chart this week.
