TNG Chart Update
I’m back once again like the renegade master, minus the ill behaviour (Fatboy Slim fans would understand) to bring to you the latest news regarding the charts at BeatPort and Juno with the on-going saga that is The Noise Gate Chart Update! Halloween is right around the corner so let’s begin before the zombie apocalypse arrives….
Deep House & Bass
10. Jook 10 – Feelings
9. The Avener – Fade Out Lines
8. Woz – Trust Meh
7. Eddie Amador – House Music (Robosonic Remix)
6. Riddim Commission – WWYS (Why Would You Stop) Ft. Eve (Crookers Remix)
5. Bambook & Mennie – Slip Away Ft. Cari Golden
4. Archive – Move
3. Henry Krinkle – Stay (Justin Martin Remix)
2. Lone – Restless City (Head High Remix)
1. Shadow Child & Doorly – Piano Weapon
Starting the rundown party as usual, it’s the deep house & bass update. We have five new entries mainly from Juno’s top five this week and tussling with them for the right to be number one are the likes of The Avener; Archive, Bambook and Mennie plus plenty more earth shuddering bassline tracks!
Last week’s number 7 ‘Outlines’ by the team of Mike Mago and Dragonette have failed to seize a place this time in our top 10; after hanging tough since the beginning of our charts here at TNG they couldn’t quite make it five weeks, now lying in the sixth position at BeatPort. ‘Have You’ by Nu Era has also been eliminated this week after dropping down to sixth at Juno. Fellow producers JAONA, Rushmore and last week’s number 1 by Kove with their respective singles, have all tragically been removed from the Juno top 50; therefore there will be a new number one in our charts.
We have new entry at number 10 by Reading based DJ Jook 10 with ‘Feelings’. The track was released as part of his latest LP ‘Contraversial’ nearly two weeks ago through record label Soulserious. However, the grimy bassline banger has to make do at the back of the pack for the time being as mysterious French producer The Avener has popped up one place to number 9 with his track ‘Fade Out Lines’.
Number 8 this week is a return to form for Woz, his last entry here at TNG ‘Cherry Hill’ managed to clamber up to the lofty heights of second place but rolled back down after only a week. This time the Bristolian his sitting in the charts with dark two-stepper ‘Trust Meh’, the B-side from ‘Cherry Hill’ released back in August on Black Butter Records (we reviewed it here).
A further two new entries make up the number 7 and 6 positions this week. Firstly, it’s Cord Henning Labuhn and Sacha Robotti better known as Robosonic, with the duo’s own spin of ‘House Music’ by Eddie Amador. Now if you remember by going back to the last chart updates, a remix of Eddie Amador’s ‘House Music’ by Uto Karem featured in the Techno Chart. It must seem that the original is very popular amongst producers across the globe and the EDM community, keeps on lapping up each and every new remix that manages to breakthrough.
At number 6 is the legendary Swiss based producer Crookers with his creatively bass heavy remix of ‘WWYS’ by Riddim Commission. Back in 2009, Crookers made a huge smash with Kelis called ‘No Security’; the track also managed to make its way on to feature in the hugely popular video game, Grand Theft Auto 4. Now the reason I’m mentioning this is because both ‘No Security’ and his latest remix of ‘WWYS’ has a lot of similarities; and because of the similarities, one has to wonder if he can replicate the success once more.
Shifting to number 5 and moving nowhere is the duo of Bambook and Mennie with ‘Slip Away’. Correspondingly to Bambook and Mennie, remaining at number 4 this week and contradictory to the song title, it’s ‘Move’ by Archive. Next up is Justin Martin’s remix of Henry Krinkle’s ‘Stay’ – which is exactly what the track name suggests, making itself at home for several weeks now at number 3.
Our highest new entry this week is the Head High remix of ‘Restless City’, originally by Matthew Cutler under the pseudonym of Lone. This bouncy affair was released only six days ago through R&S Records but it will have to settle for second place this week. The reason for this is because ‘Piano Weapon’ by Shadow Child and Doorly, has reclaimed their crown vacated by Kove to be TNG’s number 1 once again. Incredibly ‘Piano Weapon’ has remained as BeatPort’s number one for over at least a fortnight now. Can the duo of Shadow Child and Doorly solidify top spot at the second attempt? Find out next week.
Electro House
10. TJR & VINAI – Bounce Generation
9. David Guetta – Dangerous Ft. Sam Martin (David Guetta Banging Remix)
8. TJR – Ass Hypnotized Ft. Dances With White Girls
7. Duke Dumont – Slow Dance
6. Joris Voorn – The Secret
5. Bassjackers – Savior
4. Oliver – Light Years Away
3. Lazy Rich & Hot Mouth – BONK!
2. Man Power – Renamed
1. Rune RK – Calabria (Firebeatz Remix)
Crossfading over to our Electro House Chart and there has been a lot of modifications to the top 10 in terms of jostling for position. In the maze to find the top spot this week are the likes of TJR; Duke Dumont, Joris Voorn, Oliver and Man Power and many other belters on this list.
BeatPort’s and our number 1 from last week, ‘Let Me Feel’ by Nicky Romero; Vicetone and When We Are Wild, has crashed and burned out of the top 10 here at TNG and the top 5 at BeatPort to finally sit at sixth place. Similar actions have taken place at Juno, their number one by Ray Mang and Foolish Felix has tumbled down sixteen positions to now fill seventeenth place. A-Trak’s mix of ‘Heads Will Roll’ by The Yeah Yeah Yeahs has also been catapulted out and it has hit the ground in nineteenth position. On the other hand, ‘Tambo’ by DJ D Kline and Red Polo has been ditched outside the top 50 at Juno altogether.
Propping up the table this week is the first of 3 new entries; so at number 10 we have the collaboration of TJR and Italian brothers VINAI with ‘Bounce Generation’. The young duo from Brescia, in north Italy; splashed on to the scene last year with their hit ‘Hands Up’ receiving support from many top international artists. VINAI have continued their rise in collaborating with TJR to make another almighty impact by creating this big-room anthem called ‘Bounce Generation’.
At number 9 this week is David Guetta with his ‘banging remix’ of ‘Dangerous’ dropping four places. Going in the opposite direction to the Frenchman is the second entry for American EDM producer TJR with ‘Ass Hypnotized’ bouncing up two spots to eighth. Locking these tracks down in the lower echelons of our chart is a re-entry for Duke Dumont with ‘Slow Dance’. The London based producer first appeared in our inaugural charts last month, but after one solitary week here at The Noise Gate; ‘Slow Dance’ entered into chart obscurity. However, Duke Dumont has returned with new found momentum after rave reviews of his current tour schedule to occupy number 7 spot.
Amsterdam’s own Joris Voorn has already created tremors in the Juno standings, currently lying in third. This week here at TNG, the Dutchman has jumped into sixth slot in the rankings with his 2010 slammer titled ‘The Secret’ – released through record label Vendetta Spain. This track encompasses samples from Donna Summer’s 1977 ‘I Feel Love’ to create a catchy techno-pop vibe.
Reaching the halfway stage and it is our highest new entry in the Electro House Chart this week. At number 5 we are marking the comeback of Dutch duo Bassjackers with ‘Savior’ released through Spinnin’ Records. The pair’s last entry in our rankings was their remix of ‘Dear Life’ by Dannic; however that tune bid farewell at The Noise Gate two weeks ago. Nevertheless this original production is true to form of Bassjackers, laying down an onslaught of bass drops and synth patterns.
Maintaining its upward revival this week from its re-entry two weeks ago is ‘Light Years Away’ by Oliver scampering up a further five places to take the number 4 spot. Pausing once more this week is ‘BONK!’ by the duo of Lazy Rich and Hot Mouth remaining in third. ‘Renamed’ by Man Power has towered above everyone at Juno yet the brakes have had to be applied for the being, racing up four places into second.
This means we have a new number 1 due to Nicky Romero’s bow out of the competition. Climbing a substantial six positions it’s Firebeatz and their remix of ‘Calabria’ by Rune RK. Can they fend off other newcomers and former challengers for another week? Or will they suffer the same fate as our previous top dogs and travel ‘destination unknown’……see what I did there?
Drum & Bass
10. Rhythm Riders – Give Me A Sign Ft. Aswad, Renegade Soundwave & Brother Culture (Bladerunner Remix)
9. Voltage – Junkyard Dog
8. Tyke – Big Sound Ft. Daddy Earl
7. Ulterior Motive – Sideways
6. Bassline Terrorist – Death Rattle (Majistrate Remix VIP)
5. Audio – Nil By Mouth
4. Icicle – Problem Ft. Skittles
3. Tyke – Do It Now
2. Ed Rush – Scarabs
1. Jaguar Skills & Chords – Lust (Break Remix) Ft. Matti Roots
The unpredictability of the Juno chart strikes again as all 5 new entries comes from their respective rankings this week. Jaguar Skills and Chords face stiff opposite this time around in terms of Voltage; Tyke, Icicle, Audio and more rave frenzy drum and bass tunes that we’ll encounter info from below.
Last week we had the likes of Krakota and the duo, Gerra and Stone; all of which have disappeared for top 10 contentions by falling outside of the top 50 at Juno. Meanwhile at BeatPort, our number 10, only seven days prior, Mefjus with ‘Suicide Bassline’ is just missing out by tripping up a few places to sit in the sixth place. Ulterior Motive have lost one their long-standing entries in our chart, it’s ‘Tape Pack’ dropping out of the top 5 at BeatPort. Closing out our round-up of previous entries this week is the Chopstick Dubplate remix of ‘Cool Me Off’ by Jacky Murda and Tuffist, with a cataclysmic fall to twenty-seventh at Juno.
A former number 1 here at TNG is directly at the other end of the scale and that is Bladerunner’s remix of ‘Give Me A Sign’, by continuing its downward spiral this week and it is just about hanging in our standings for the time being. Ahead of that is a brand new entry for Voltage with ‘Junkyard Dog’, released through record label Computer Integrated Audio only 6 days ago. Keeping Voltage on their leash is another breed with a new entry at number 8. Taken from his latest EP, ’Do It Now’ its Tyke with his distinctive sharp snapper titled ‘Big Sound’ featuring Daddy Earl. The self-proclaimed ‘mischief maker’ and ‘cheeky little upstart’ has begun to make inroads at Juno causing havoc of a musical vibrancy, to bag a top 10 track for himself.
This week’s biggest drop is surprisingly the highly rated duo of Ulterior Motive. They might have lost ‘Tape Pack’ in top 10, ‘Sideways’ remains even though unlike the title suggests, it gone into a downward fashion losing five spots to sit in at number 7. A heavy smash by Majistrate is next as a new entry at number 6. The Sweet Tooth Recordings signed producer has thrown down the gauntlet of synth distortions in this VIP remix of Bassline Terrorist’s ‘Death Rattle’ and has managed to gain a top 5 spot at Juno.
The fourth new entry in our standings at TNG this week, goes to British producer Gareth Greenall – more famously known as Audio – with his hard hitting production called ‘Nil By Mouth’. This RAM records release has already made a huge impact at both BeatPort and Juno, claiming a spot in top 5 in each respective chart after only being a week old. Keep an eye on the movements of this track as it could be one to listen out for by this distinctively tattooed DnB veteran.
Being a ‘frozen’ thorn in the side of new entrant progression and causing an issue is our number 4 this week as a non-mover, it’s Icicle and Skittles with ‘Problem’. Featuring political lyricism and ripping beats, it’s a certified banger. Next up is our highest new entry in the Drum & Bass update and it is a second entry for Tyke; taken from the same EP as ‘Big Sound’ is the title tune ‘Do It Now’ jumping in at number 3. The Londoner’s latest work seems to have generated a mass following of praise at Juno for his 5-track energetic DnB masterpiece – released through record label Playaz – with every track minus ‘Hold A Thought In Your Hand’ has entered into the Juno top 50. It will be interesting to see what else Tyke can produce in the next year, so watch this space!
Not quite gaining a big enough boost to clinch top spot this week is Ed Rush with ‘Scarabs’, hopping up one place to being our number 2, due to Ulterior Motive’s sudden collapse. This means that the remix by Break of ‘Lust’ – originally by Jaguar Skills and Chords, has managed to make it three successive weeks at the top of The Noise Gate Chart update in Drum & Bass. Will this DnB anthem ever lose its lucky streak? Or will good fortune prevail again? The news will be coming soon…
Dubstep
10. Au5 – Snowblind Ft. Tasha Baxter
9. Innasound – Step Fourth
8. Calibre – Tenopause
7. The Frim – Hi
6. J Kenzo & Matty G – Flatline
5. MUST DIE! – Gem Shards
4. Mr. Boogie – Invasion Ft. Fused Forces
3. Lana Del Rey – Ultraviolence (DatsiK Remix)
2. Feonix – The Cube
1. Barely Alive Vs. Dodge & Fuski – Poison
Four newcomers and one re-entrant make-up half of our Dubstep Update this week. Furthermore, just like our Drum and Bass chart; can our current number 1 manage three weeks at the top? Grappling to clinch number 1 spot, we have the likes of Calibre; Feonix, The Frim, Innasound and Au5 plus more brilliant reverb distortions coming your way, so let’s begin!
Seven days ago ‘Foul Play’ by Thelem was propping up our chart. However, due to it toppling down nine places to fourteenth at Juno; this track is no longer in our top 10. Additionally to Thelem’s failing to maintain a top 10 spot at TNG; artists and bands such as Vallew; Adventure Club, Phaeleh and Geode have all been unable to hang on to their positions to transition over to this week. The biggest casualty was ‘Cool Me Off’ by Jacky Murda and Tuffist flopping out of the top 50 at Juno.
A re-entrant is our number 10 this week and it is also a former number 1; it’s American producer Au5 with ‘Snowblind’. At number 9 is a surprise as its TNG’s biggest descendancy, taking seven paces back its Innasound with ‘Step Fourth’. The first new entry in our rankings in the Dubstep Update is ‘Tenopause’ by Calibre. This dark erratic but edgy energetic track was released through Deep Medi Musik and it’s our number 8 this week. Keeping up with the pace this week is The Frim at number 7 skipping past spots to claim seventh position with ‘Hi’.
Our number 6 is another new entry but a second entry for J Kenzo in the rankings here at The Noise Gate. Originally, J Kenzo’s previous admission was ‘Straight Defeat’ yet it didn’t fare too well in terms of longevity. This time around the producer from Kent has teamed up with Matty G producing ‘Flatline’ – this track features on the same EP as ‘Straight Defeat’ called ‘The Compilation’ which I mentioned last week – released through Artikal Music UK.
Reaching the mid-region and trickling down two places to fifth is ‘Gem Shards’ by German born producer MUST DIE! Ahead of him in fourth, is another German producer by the name of Mr. Boogie with ‘Invasion’ featuring British duo Fused Forces. This monotonous acute Dubstep production was released nearly two weeks ago through record label Lutetia Dubz UK as part of Mr Boogie’s ‘Invasion’ EP.
Switching places with MUST DIE! from last week is DatsiK, regaining third slot in the standings with his epic remix of ‘Ultraviolence’ by Lana Del Rey. Blocking DatsiK’s path to the big time is Manchester’s own Feonix – who recently dropped us an awesome set as part of The Noise Gate’s mix series. Entering as our highest new track at number 2, it is the title tune of his latest EP ‘The Cube’ released through record Macabre Unit Digital. Therefore, remaining at number 1 for a third week is ‘Poison’ by the partnership of Barely Alive and Dodge and Fuski. Can anyone stop this powerhouse? Next week will reveal the answers.
Techno
10. Eddie Amador – House Music (Uto Karem Remix)
9. Moderat – Bad Kingdom (DJ Koze Remix)
8. Guy J – Once In A Blue Moon
7. Floorplan – Never Grow Old
6. Recondite – Caldera
5. Sam Paganini – Another Chance
4. Sam Paganini – Rave
3. Mr. Rog – Parque Botanico (Space A Remix)
2. Trus’Me – I Want You (Alan Fitzpatrick Remix)
1. Cirez D – Ruby
Regardless of our other charts here at The Noise Gate, the Techno update always throws up surprises. However, the trend seems to have faltered this week with only two brand new songs and two re-entries in the rankings. In the TNG Techno standings this week we have the likes of Guy J; Sam Paganini, Cirez D, Recondite and several other rhythmic floor fillers all trying to be the number 1 track currently held by Moderat and DJ Koze.
Drumcode’s Jel Ford was here last week but gone the next, as his track ‘Backyard’ dropped to sixth place at BeatPort. The duo of Rumah and Progression has receded eight spots at Juno to now stay at thirteenth. Following this flow of fallers, the entries by Martin Eyerer and Bodyjack have completely left our chart along with being part of the Juno top 50.
Making a mistake which could cost them is Uto Karem’s remix of ‘House Music’ by Eddie Amador – which I mentioned earlier with Robosonic’s remix entry in the Deep House and Bass chart. This groovy captivating spin has slipped a solitary place but the worst is yet to come. That being said, our number 1 from seven days ago has capitulated down the standings to solidify itself at number 9 this week; I’m talking about DJ Koze’s remix of ‘Bad Kingdom’ by Moderat. Therefore we have already found out that we will have a brand new number 1.
Our first new entry is by Israeli native, Guy J with ‘Once In A Blue Moon’ – released through Bedrock Records as part of the ‘Candyland’ EP. The beautiful synth resonance is phenomenal with this tune, as I expect this single to survive a few weeks here at TNG. Nonetheless, a re-entry has barricaded itself in the way of Guy J and its Floorplan returning with his track ‘Never Grow Old’. Another non-mover also stands in the way, as it is yet an secondary obstacle; this time it is Recondite with ‘Caldera’.
In the middle of the pack are two tracks from excellent Italian techno specialist, Sam Paganini. At number 5 and number 4 is ‘Another Chance’ and ‘Rave’ respectively. Next up in third place is our highest new entry. It’s Space A’s remix perspective of ‘Parque Botanico’ originally by Spanish producer Mr. Rog. Released through record label Climax Germany, this crazy strobe light friendly banger is deservedly worth being in our chart and also worth checking out.
Jumping up one place at mainly Moderat’s expense is Alan Fitzpatrick’s mix of ‘I Want You’ by Trus’Me – which has lasted a staggering five weeks here at TNG, since its inception in mid-September. This means our number 1 for this week is Eric Prydz’ alter-ego, Cirez D with his belter titled ‘Ruby’. Can this gem of a track remain a diamond in the rough for another week? Find out on the Halloween edition of the TNG Chart Update – see you then!
