TNG Chart Update

The Noise Gate chart continues as we have mentioned before, we are going to give you our followers; extensive coverage of what is happening in the electronic dance music charts and here we have our latest part in the series – Part 4 – Dubstep. In this week we have face melting, mind exploding heavy Dubstep from the likes of DatsiK; Virtual Riot, Excision, AxH and Au5 plus many more, so let’s begin!

Dubstep

At the back of the pack at number 10 this week, it’s Canadian brothers Daega Sound with ‘Abyss’ – released through Tuba Records only two days ago. Daega Sound known for their foundations of sophisticated sub-bass and syncopated drum rhythms, they do not disappoint with this very deep and dark number. ‘Abyss’ is a clever production to create this murky vibe with emphasis on the atmospherics and ethereal soundscapes. With the track entering the charts at number 5 on the Juno charts at such an early stage since its release, ‘Abyss’ is almost guaranteed to hang around for at least a few weeks.

Next in at number 9 in our chart and currently in fifth place in BeatPort’s Dubstep chart, is a remix by another Canadian artist. This time it’s Dubstep producer and star Troy Beetles a.k.a DatsiK with his version of Lana Del Rey’s single from June called ‘Ultraviolence’. Personally one of my favourite remixes this year; DatsiK puts his own spin on this track by adding a captivating delirium of synth patterns and an exhilarating drum loop that sends the remarkable original by Del Rey to the next level of a musical rhapsody.

However, keeping DatsiK at bay in our chart and making the number 8 its own is ‘Nano’ by AxH released through London record label Tempa – a mere two days ago, just like our number 10 entry ‘Abyss’ by Daega Sound. AxH’s familiar style of deep persistent sub bass is very profound in ‘Nano’ creating a haunting and chilling intangible feel – one to definitely give the bass range of your speakers a work out!

Moving on to number 7 in The Noise Gate Dubstep update is EH!DE’s remix of ‘Tweet’ originally by Marshmallows and Carl G. The powerful force is strong with this one as EH!DE throws down another hammer fist of a remixed track. The young Spanish producer from Seville, known for his popular tunes such as ‘Hype’; ‘We Are Players’ and ‘Get Busted’ once again submerges with an onslaught of his bro-step style of massive drops. If this smash doesn’t get you in the raving mood then I don’t know what will!

Prominently holding on to the third sport in the BeatPort charts and presently our number 6 this week is Excision and Dion Timmer with ‘Out of Time’ featuring American trio, Splitbreed. Rottun Recordings released this composition just over two weeks ago and it seems like it isn’t moving anywhere soon; as the usual Excision style bleeds through the veins of this slammer. ‘Out of Time’ is vociferous production that throws down an intense attack of your ear drums with wave after wave of synth distortions and enthralling drum loops and effects.

Reaching the halfway point of our chart and currently Juno’s number three is a second entry for AxH. The final remix is our chart this week and AxH has provided us his own twist on RDG and Hitman’s ‘Mercenary Ship’. The track which is also situated at number eighty-six at BeatPort was released through Subaltern Records at the beginning of the month. Personally speaking there is a very strong influence of Dutch trio, Noisia in this sound production. Nevertheless, AxH who’s popularity is growing with the help of RinseFM this year, has managed to create a worthwhile and fascinating remix of ‘Mercenary Ship’ – therefore, it our number 5.

At number 4 ironically is Innasound with ‘Step Fourth’ released through Tempa, the record label’s second entry in our chart this week. In conjecture to Juno’s Dubstep chart, there have been a lot of new releases taking this specific chart by storm with ‘Step Fourth’ being the highest new entry. This Benga-esque; slow reggae infused bassline tune constructed by Chris Innasound – shortened to Innasound – the South Yorkshire based producer has also managed to attain a place of BeatPort’s Dubstep 100, lying in seventy-sixth position.

Now it is time for our final three here at TNG; so without further ado, in third place is an artist who I profiled last month as well as reviewing his EP ‘We’re Not Alone’. It’s Virtual Riot with ‘Gangsters’ released through his usual label, Disciple Recordings, exactly a week today. ‘Gangsters’ has some elements of the Trap genre in this piece, continuing his experimentation of different styles and incorporating them within his music with great progression. Overall ‘Gangsters’ is an inquisitive track evolving the boundaries of Dubstep as a solidified genre.

Just missing out on the top spot this week is Juno Dubstep Bestsellers Chart’s current number one, Nomine with ‘Ninjah’ – making the London label Tempa, having their third and final entry this week. Nomine is starting to build quite a steady reputation for himself since 2012 with his EP release ‘Jahpan’ being credited with tracks from the EP airing on Annie Mac and Nihal’s shows on Radio 1. In addition to being featured on several podcasts for Rinse FM, Nomine’s single ‘Ninjah’ has also found a place on the BeatPort 100, sitting in sixty-ninth place. ‘Ninjah’ continues in Nomine’s recognisable distinctive form of a structured soft then hard sub-bass brand of dubstep, including a deluge of echoed melodies and percussion of an altering variety. To sum up Nomine is in no doubt of being more than capable of making his own niche with his driving Dubstep into the UK soundsystem and rave culture of today.

At last, we have reached the summit of our very first TNG Dubstep Chart and climbing above all of the others to the pinnacle of our chart – and at present BeatPort’s Dubstep Top 100 – is American producer Au5 with ‘Snowblind’ featuring vocals by South African starlet Tasha Baxter. The production is more acquainted of the style by Au5, creating an energetic sensation of forceful synth and drum distortions. ‘Snowblind’ is an avalanche of vigorous sound rendering all sugar coated by Tasha Baxter’s ability to match the chords with her angelic-sounding lyrical amplification. Since the released of this single through Monstercat nearly a month ago, it is well deserving of its fortification at the peak of BeatPort and here at The Noise Gate for this week.
