It’s that time of year again so grab your passport, sunglasses and skimpy swimwear because the Ibiza season is well and truly upon us and there is no better way to celebrate than attending the annual Space Opening Fiesta.
If you have never attended, then do so as it’s an event of epic proportion and any seasoned clubber will tell you; there is no other party on earth that compares. The landmark event to be held this Sunday May 25th, signalling the official start of the Ibiza party calendar is set to draw clubbers to the island from every corner of the globe. All races, religions, colours and creeds gather every year to drink, dance and shed their inhibitions on the grounds of this multi-award winning club, partying to the eclectic sounds of some of the hottest and most respected DJ’s and electronic acts on the circuit. This year will be no different with headline acts such as electronic pioneers The Chemical Brothers, technology maestro James Zabelia, a rare DJ set from funksters Basement Jaxx and Queen of the underground Nina Kravitz, all confirmed to headline the festivities.
The party kicks off under Ibiza’s glorious midday sun with Ultra Festival organisers once again taking over the car park area with their impressive ‘Flight Deck’ stage set up. The even more impressive Funktion One sound system will be shaking the tarmac with the sounds of spinners such as Jon Rundell, Edu Imbernon and Deep Dish right until sundown, accompanied by stage shows, dancers, acrobats and pyrotechnics that Space deliver so spectacularly while revellers fist pump the sky and celebrate, as the incoming aircraft come in to land low overhead at the nearby Eivissa airport.
It’s easy to see why Space Ibiza has been repeatedly voted ‘Best Club in the world’. You really are hard pressed to find atmosphere, energy and feel-good vibes that even come close anywhere else on the planet – and the nightclub layout is equally perfect. In between raving in the booming, packed out main room you can head upstairs to the rooftop sunset terrace, catch a cooling breeze and get a shuffle on to some seriously funky house sounds that are synonymous with the Space brand. You can catch some international groovers such as Marco Loco and the House South Brothers rocking the turntables, with the cool vibes continuing through the main terrace and salon with DJs such as Spanish favourite Javi Bora and Space veteran Jonathan Ulysees spinning some of the sexiest sounds you are ever likely to hear.
I would strongly advise any dance music fan who has never experienced Space Ibiza to do so and the Opening Fiesta should be on every serious clubber’s bucket-list. So if you haven’t already done so then book a flight and buy a ticket…you won’t regret it. As all of life’s little problems fade away into the beautiful Ibiza background, the only tough decision you’ll face is whether to come home or not!
